In Greene, my one friend is Seph. We weren't supposed to be friends. It was quite by accident. At Grey, or the cell as it has been nicknamed by us kids of Greene, due to its barred windows and locked doors. So yes, as I was saying, Seph. How we met : I was crawling through my favourite pipe of the school's sewer system. Now that may sound strange; I am very skinny and scrawny. One day, a few years ago, I found a really wide tunnel behind a whiteboard in a storeroom. I realised it led to the school sewer system and the pipes surrounding the school. But I think they were built for more than just sewage. Out of curiosity, I start to crawl through. Since then I have been using the passage for transport around school unnoticed.
One day, that day, i was crawling through a pipe trying to break my record time (2:10s) to reach the other side of the school in the pipe maze, when i heard heavy breathing. Someone was behind me. I panic and fluster. What do i do? I slowly turn around to see.....
"AAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!" We both scream in each others faces. We catch our breath, and look each other up and down. Standing in front of me is a boy, about my age, with the picture of terror on his face.
"Who...a..are you?" I stutter.
"I could say the same to you!" He replies rudely.
"Oh, well would you care to explain?" I try not to let the shaking of my voice and my shivering hands show in my face. I won't let him win.
"No, you first!"
"No, you!"
"What ever. Although i don't understand why i should explain myself to you" he says coldly.
"How did you find the tunnels?" I ask.
"I found them about a year ago--"
"What? you have been using them the whole time?"
"YES!! God, do you let anyone talk?" he says sarcastically.
"Sorry" i mumble.
" I use them to get around school. I'm in there everyday getting to class before everyone else. Its funny confusing them. I thought i was the only one who knew. But it seems not" He finishes pointedly.
"oh" is all i can get out. So, all this time i have not been alone when making my way through these tunnels.
Ever since, though from that cold conversation you may not believe me, we have been friends ever since.
