Chapter 5
"Three, two, one..."
I grab Sephs hand and we jump...and hit the closed door with a pang!
"Ok, plan B"
He pulls out another pin and starts to pick the lock.
"Do portals have normal locks?"
"One way to find out" two seconds later.....click!
"Whoop!"
"Isn't it a bit strange, a 'portal' having a normal lock?"
"It probably didn't originally, but I expect maybe who ever owns it added it" he says."Anyway, enough chatting. Three-"
"Two" I say, my voice shaking nervously."Are you sure?"
"No time for wimps" he laughs "Jump!!"
He pushes open the heavy door and we are enveloped in pure darkness. I shut me eyes and scream for what feels like forever, but is probably only a few minutes. We are falling and falling in a bottomless abyss.
I hold Seph's hand harder than I ever knew I can, until I'm sure his circulation is blocked. Then sll of a sudden he pulls away. I must have held too hard. "Sorry " I shout. No reply. It's so fast I can't turn to see his face, and when I do, He's....gone?
I land with a thus, alone. "Seph!!!!" I scream. Nothing. I am dimly aware that I am in an enclosed space, pitch black, but I can see a faint glow in the distance. I start running towards it. I get close enough to see what it its. The door? I cautiously step towards it. I push it uncertainly, then find the confidence to open it fully.

The first thing I notice is the sky. It's...gold? I frown. Where am I? I can hear loud beeps and voices. I see people, lots of them, bustling around with bags several on each person. Where did they get so much shopping? There are no shopping centres in Greene. There are no shops! We are sent our meagre rations in parcels delivered by the postman. This is getting more snow more strange by the second. I become aware of stalls, with real FRUIT AND VEG? And cakes, trinkets, sweets (!!!) The only fruit I have ever tasted was an orange at Christmas with nuts. Suddenly, I know where I am. My story books have come in handy as I compare this scene to the market pictures in my stories of London, this strange place called a city in the old world. This is a market! This is..no. It can't be.
