She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. "I don't care I was sent to bring you back so that's what I'm going to do" I reply. She narrows her eyes and scoffs, "and who exactly do you think you are?" I laugh a little and hold my hand out "I'm Dylan and you?" I raise a brow and she smacks my hand away, "No point in getting to know me cause I'm not going with you. That wasn't an actual question"she says rolling her eyes. I sigh and shake my head for she's going to put up a fight and I have no direction of what I'm to do after I find her. "How do we get back"I ask and she laughs loudly. "God sent you here with no idea on how to get us back huh?" I shamefully nod feeling a little embarrassed even thought it's not my fault.
She smirks and grabs my wrist and runs. I jolt forward and try my best to keep up. "Where are we going"I ask. The city seems to buzz even louder now and I almost feel the need to shout. "Why not have some fun since you don't even know the way back to heaven?" I can't seem to form an argument about why not. She has a point so I just follow her lead. She leads me to a bridge and jumps off. I cringe before realizing were already dead, there's no harm to be done. I climb on the railing and almost let go before she lands with a thud into the water. Her body lays a little past the shore and it's stiff as a board. I swallow hard and wait for her to get up. I feel a tap on my shoulder and she laughs evilly. "Gotcha"she says playfully and I look back down at her body laying on the shore. She jumped at a shallow part of the Hudson river and now I'm glad I didn't jump. She laughs and shakes her head, "don't worry we'll always come back. We're doomed with enternal life even after death."
"That's the least of my concerns right now"I say and she frowns at me. "Well excuse me for trying to mess with you and have a little fun"she says with sass. I roll my eyes and climb back over the railing of the bridge before sitting on the concrete. Cars buzz by us and I wonder how my families doing without me. Truly the world doesn't stop spinning and I find myself struggling with the thought of life moving on without me. "So what's your hell"she asks pulling me away from my thoughts. "Excuse me"I say through gritted teeth. I turn to face her and she's looking at me with the most innocent look in her eyes. "What's it like for you, what haunts you?"
"Nothing"I grunt in response and she grabs my shoulder. "Come on that's the only reason you're here. I know how the system works. You've got a chance into heaven, tell me and maybe I'll help you get there"she says. I eye her and take a moment to study her. She's not showing any signs of lying or being funny. She has the prettiest blue almost white eyes. Her lips are fully and soft, her cheeks painted with freckles. Her ginger hair falling around her shoulders moves when she shrugs. "You just gonna stare at me then?" I apologize and shake my head. "It's hard to explain it all"I reply and she shoves her hand into my shoulder. "Try"she shouts and I sigh deeply, "it's my own hell not yours."
"Fine don't tell me then not like I really planned on going back anyways"she rolls her eyes and I scoff. "It's heaven what's so bad about it that you don't want to go back"I question her raising a brow. She smiles and chuckles. "Maybe you wouldn't understand and it's hard to explain." She's sitting with her legs crossed. I look at her hands and she's picking at her nails. "You know I'm haunting a city I've never seen before"she says softly. She looks up at me and I make eye contact. She looks away shyly, "my names Valeria, I lived in Georgia actually. I was murdered by a boyfriend of mine at the time. I loved and trusted him and one day he just snapped. Thankfully heaven takes away any wounds and scars you have. I remember looking at myself laying on the kitchen floor and thinking it couldn't be me." Valeria stops and shakes her head.
"I was unrecognizable I didn't want to believe it was me"she looks up at me with tears in her eyes. I frown and put my hand on hers. "I can't imagine how that must've felt. Listen I want to get you home, help me get you home Valeria." "I can't I like it here it feels normal and it makes me have the freedom I've always wanted. Don't you get it? I'm free Dylan I'm fucking free." I sigh and hold her hand tightly. "Don't you want that Dylan? Being able to just float and not matter no effect on anything anymore!" "Actually no I don't I feel if I'm going to be stuck on earth I want to be living again"I reply looking at her. She smiles and jumps up suddenly. "I have to go, it was nice meeting you Dylan."
"Wait where are you going"I barely have time to ask before she makes a final jump into the ground below once again. This time I turn behind me and she doesn't appear. I look around and even wait a while before admitting defeat and walking away from the bridge.
