A/N:
This entry is one of my personal favorites. Although I didn't win this one, this small piece of fiction changed the way I looked at stories and writing. This was when I realized I'd actually gotten better at writing, having received a lot of positive comments for it. For the first time, I was really proud of myself for coming up with something I'd love to read. I know your thoughts might be different, but please let me know whatever you think about it.
P.S - I have a revised, longer and better version of this prompt, but I just thought I'd put my exact submission in here since this book is all about my entries.

The Devil Inside
"No!" the scream escaped her throat and her eyes shot open in an attempt to rid her mind of the horrifying scene. The nightmare she just had felt terrifyingly real and she shuddered as the images came floating back to her mind. Wiping the beads of sweat from her face, she got up from her bed and decided to go out for a run to clear her mind.
She stepped out of her house and started to run, the ice cold air biting her skin. Nobody else in the neighbourhood was awake except for the dogs down the street.
She had barely made it to the park when she felt something was off. And all of a sudden, the dogs began to bark. Their howls echoed through the deathly silence of the night. Panic struck her heart as she heard footsteps behind her.
She turned back swiftly but couldn’t see anyone. She increased her pace, her heart now beating fast. But the footsteps were back, now getting louder by the minute.
Then, out of nowhere, a hand was pressed into her stomach and she was forced to stop.
"You can never hide from me", a malicious voice spoke in her ear and she was spun around. Terror overtook her when she looked at the figure before her. It was the same hooded figure from her dream.
A blood-curdling scream escaped her throat when the figure removed its hood. Her body trembled with fear as she looked at the devil.
The devil had its bloodshot eyes set on her and blood dripped from every inch of its body, soaking her clothes. But when it raised its hand carrying a knife, she wasn’t scared of the impact it was going to make.
She was terrified because the devil looked exactly like her. And because she couldn't stop killing herself.
