Chapter 2: my real home
Harry POV
My uncle threw me and my stuff out of the car and my head smacked against the concrete. Small black spots started to cloud my vision as his car sped off, not even a goodbye. Not that I'm shocked, it still hurts. The small subtle reminders that i haven't got a family and more than likely never will
I hauled myself up and made my way through onto platform 9 3/4. Ron found me and immediately rushed over, fussing over me like a mother hen. "are you alright Harry? your head is bleeding" he starts using the cuff of his jumper to wipe the blood off "I-Im alright Ron, i honestly didn't notice "i felt my cheeks heat up into what i could tell was a deep blush. "i will never not worry for you.." he held his hand on my face for a few moments, his warm was warm and comforting. Gentle in a way nobody usually was with me, he eventually realised he was staring and pulled away, a faint blush covering his freckled nose.
"oi oi!" i heard a thick Irish accent call through the crows of people on the platform, Seamus pushed his way through crowds of sniffling first years and over excitable second years. Dean followed closely behind him, fingers intertwined. They had finally gotten together over summer and i don't think anyone could be more relieved, well, maybe Neville.
"hey guys" Neville followed us onto the train, weaving through students trying to find a empty compartment. Neville played matchmaker for them both, he of course let the credit go straight to his head. "only this one is open guys" Ron lead us into a compartment with one other person in it.
He was a rather tall man, sandy blonde hair peeked out from under his long, tattered cloak. His shoes were scuffed at the toe, laces untied and fraying at the ends. He had a long cane leaned up beside him, it was a dark, warm brown with a golden curve at the top where the handle is. It looked heavy, i internally shivered at the idea of how bad it would hurt if i were swung with it. Dudley's cane from smelting's really hurt and it didn't look nearly as heavy as this mans. I had never seen him in Hogwarts before, i wonder who he is.
"Professor R.J Lupin" Hermione said, shaking me out my thoughts, i hadn't even seen her walk in. "do you know everything?" Ron looked at her quizzically "How is it she knows everything?" he turned to me with a exasperated expression and i just shrugged and smiled. "its written on the case Ronald honestly, make a effort to not be so inept "she scoffed and his face fell. I felt a lump form in my stomach at his downcast expression, Hermione was what i call a kind of friend. We befriended her because she didn't have any friends and that felt the right thing to do. we quickly realised why she had no friends
"we aren't all desperate for your approval, Granger" Seamus smirked as her sneer fell slightly, she's always making Ron feel awful for no reason. Hermione's very entitled, i tried to understand her, how she strives for perfection and she feels she has something to prove. Personally i think shes just trying to prove why we should've avoided her all together. I can never bring myself to say that to her, the condescending stare and challenging scowl are very off-putting
Conversation continued on as normal, we decided we wouldn't discuss the summer until we were in the safety of our four-posters in Gryffindor tower. Mr Lupins presence made everyone slightly on edge, we realised he must've been for the DADA post and nobody wanted to risk slipping him sensitive information. That and Hermione was still present, pushy as ever. She never was good at keeping things to herself, she's single-handedly the reason everyone in our year and some above knows that I'm gay, she's also the reason everyone knows about Ron's issues with containing his anger. She will undoubtedly be the one who outs Seamus and Dean seeing as she's already managed to bully it out of Neville, who sat silently in the corner in guilt.
Hermione finally left to get her robes on and go torment some other poor unsuspecting students. Seamus and Dean quickly reassured Neville they didn't blame him for his slip up, Hermione is nothing of not a pushy bitch. My relatives said I'm not allowed to say that word though, it would result very quickly in a smack in the mouth. Vernon says "you will not disgrace us further by speaking to the upstanding members of this neighbourhood with a foul mouth"
