Angel Dust

Wildfire Rose was your typical popular high school girl. She had long dark hair and is standing at a whopping 5'4. She was known as the school's 'it' girl. She and her best friend Layla set the fashion boundaries at their school. Stick and poke tattoos were inked in their skin. The only things was- she hated it. Every single moment. She wanted to be in the background. She didn't like all the popularity and attention. But of course, she went to school with a bunch of xenophobic people.
Wildfire Rose walked through her small town, where it seemed to never stopped raining. She saw her school in the distance. She dreaded going but dragged on despite her unwillingness. As she arrived at school, Layla was standing by her locker. Her dark red hair hung down around her shoulders.
"Where have you been?" Layla wondered, looking down at her phone.
"I walked today. It takes me a little longer," Wildfire Rose replied while slamming her locker shut. She looked down the hall to see him looking directly at her. She didn't know his name, but she knew him. Everyone knew him. He had tattoos everywhere and only came to school when he wanted to. Nobody knew where he came from. He just showed up one day. He had a different feeling, a different energy.

He walked my way. He kept his hood up, but I could see his eyes stare deep into mine. I was frozen as he approached closer. My brain told me to go, but my feet stayed in place. I was completely paralyzed. Layla finally spun me around, dragging me towards class in one swift movement.

"What happened there?" She probed, looking at me. Concern filled her eyes.
"I-I don't know?" I stuttered looking back down the hallway making eye contact with him again. He lifted his head so I could see his whole face. His demonic eyes glistened in the light shooting fire up my spine. I turned walking into class leaving him out of sight.
The day dragged on until the final bell rung and I was finally let out of class for the day. I didn't bother looking for Layla instead I walked to my favorite place in town. The old oak tree by the lake. I sat under the tree looking out on the lake as water droplets fell onto it making little ripples. My gaze was broken by what sounded like footsteps behind me. I quickly turned around looking into the wooded area behind me. Nothing was in sight. I shrugged it off. It was probably just a deer anyway. I turned back to my phone and put on some music. Laying back on the tree I drifted into my own thoughts. The whole time I sat there I could feel someone's eyesight on my skin, staring at me. I opened my eyes and sitting next to me was him. I sat up looking at him. His eyes slowly looked over to me.
"I'm sorry, can I help you?" I trembled trying to push the fear in my voice to the back of my throat. It wasn't working very well.
"I'm Gus," he stated, plucking away at the grass. I nodded trying to break my eye contact but I couldn't.
"I'm Wildfi-"
"Wildfire Rose. Everyone knows you." he cut me off. I nodded again looking back down at the grass.
"Are you going?" Gus asked with no context.
"To?" I inquired confused.
"The bonfire." he sighed out of disappointment.
"Oh, yeah." I looked down at my hands awkwardly.
"You're going with me now." his voice was more of a command then a sentence. I nodded looking at my phone that was now buzzing. Layla's contact name appeared across the screen.
"Uh... I have to go." I looked over into the abyss he had for eyes.
"Goodbye angel." he emotionlessly spoke standing up disappearing into the woods. His little nickname caught me off guard. I missed Layla's call by the time I came back into reality. Maybe he's not all that everyone puts him out to be.

I started my music again and begun walking home. The rain pelted into my skin like tiny razor blades. My gray zip-up became soaked as I walked along the sidewalk humming the words to my favorite song at the moment.
"Come let's watch the rain as its falling down.
nothing feels the same when you're not around.
Rain keeps falling, tears keep falling down."

I wiped my feet on the matt as I walked inside my house. I was greeted by my older brother, Tracy.
"I need to talk to you." he rushed me upstairs to my room pushing me inside locking the door behind us.
"I saw you with Gus. Listen to me Wildfire Rose, you need to stay away from him." He looked me dead in the eye. I've never seen him so serious.
"You followed me! Stop being so weird Tracy. I'm fine. I'm seventeen now. I can make my own decisions." I pushed him into the wall before pointing at my door. He looked at me angrily.
"I warned you," he whispered under his breath slamming the door behind him. I sighed rolling my eyes. I laid my head into my pillow letting out a muffled scream. I sat there looking up at the ceiling and all its tiny details until my eyelids grew heavy and I fell asleep.
The sound of my alarm woke me up. I looked around my room. I felt the sticky wet feeling of my rain-soaked clothes. I got up and went to the bathroom to shower for the long day ahead of me.
