JACOB'S POV:
I was heading back to La Push with my pack. But I couldn't stop thinking about the cougar. After we tore apart the vampires, she ran off. ‘Hmm, the vampires were talking about her father,’ I thought, 'Oh, well.’
Seth came up to me. 'Jake, we should check to see if there are any other vampires.’
'Yes, you're right’
'That's a first,’ Leah chuckled.
‘Shut it Leah,’ Seth and I say in unison.
'Ok, ok, sorry,’ she muttered.
MINUTES LATER:
We finally went back to La Push. When I arrived home, I smelt someone close, so instead of phasing, I peered at my house from the bushes. As I watched, a young woman went up to the door. She had long, wavy dirty blonde hair and was wearing clothes that didn't quite fit her. I sniffed the air again when she knocked on the door, and let out a growl at the sickly sweet scent lingering around her. ‘Why the hell does she smell like vampires?’ I thought, 'Is she another leech-lover?!’
Instantly, she crouched in a defensive position, not seeing the door being open by my dad. He cleared his throat and I smirked when the woman jumped. I listened as they started talking.
“May I help you?” he asked.
“Um, yes. Are you Billy Black?” she asked.
Dad nodded. “Yes, I am. Is there something you need?” The woman took a deep breath and removed a letter from around her neck.
“My name is Alicia LeBlanc. Before my father, Lyell LeBlanc, was killed, he asked me to bring this to you,” she said as she handed the letter to him.
* * * * *
I frowned as I watched my dad's eyes widen then growled again when he told her to come inside. Once the door closed, I went to my bedroom window, phased back to human, and climbed into my room. Quickly getting dressed, I opened my door and walked into the kitchen to see Dad frowning as he read the letter. I looked to the girl and as I saw that she was silently crying, something happened.
She turned to look at me and I stepped back in shock as I felt a jolt in my body. ‘No way,’ I mentally exclaimed, 'I just imprinted on her!’
Suddenly, Dad noticed my presence. He stood up and gestured for me to come to them. I nodded and sat down on a chair.
“Jacob, this is the daughter of a family friend. Her name is Alicia LeBlanc,” Dad said, “Alicia, this is Jacob. He's my son.”
Alicia nodded and smiled at me. Then she turned back to my dad.
“Thank you for letting me inside, but I really must get going,” Alicia sighed, “The people who killed my father were following me here, and they almost got me too.” Dad frowned.
“But where would you go?” He questioned, “Your pack was killed trying to protect you.”
Alicia froze. I was confused, 'Pack? What does he mean by that?’ Suddenly it all clicked in to place: Alicia LeBlanc was the cougar.
ALICIA'S POV:
I started shaking. “How, how do you know all of that?” I demanded.“You mean your dad never told you?” Mr. Black exclaimed.
“Of course not,” I scoffed, “Dad never tells me anything.”
I saw Jacob frown at that. ‘Or maybe he just doesn't like my attitude.’ I found myself feeling sad at that thought but I don't know why. 'Well, he is pretty hot,’ I thought. I mentally shook my head. 'Now's not the time to think of that.’
Mr. Black grimaced. “Did he at least tell you why the vampires are after you?”
I sighed. “No, he didn't.”
“Here. Read the letter.”
“But, I'm not supp-”
He cut me off. “Read it.”
“O-okay.”
I grabbed the letter and read it. As I read it, my eyes widened and I gasped in disbelief. I had started tearing up when I felt a pair of warm arms wrap around me. I look up to see Jacob, his eyes full of concern.
“What's wrong Alicia?” He said.
“I, I have a second form,” I choked out. His eyes widen. We heard the front door open and a woman’s voice rang out.
“Hey, I'm back!”
She stepped into the kitchen and came to a stop when she saw me. She looked to Mr. Black, then at me, then back to Mr. Black.
‘Is it just me or does she look familiar?’ I just finished the thought when the woman screeched.
“ALLY!!!”
She ran up to me and hugged me. I looked to Jacob and his dad for an explanation. Jacob’s face was confused, while Mr. Black was amused.
“Welcome home, Rachel.”
