Just a little note, this is my first story so please remember that. Also, this is based off of the world of The Vampire Diaries BUT the characters and plot are entirely my thoughts. The places and mythical creatures in this book are a part of The Vampire Diaries books and show. Enjoy!!!
Mystic Falls, Virginia is not my home. I'm not really sure why I'm here. Maybe it's the fact that, if they do come looking for me, this will be the last place they would ever think to find me. Or maybe it's because I know that, if my dad was with me right now, this would be the place he would choose to go.
Whatever it is, I've decided to start my new life here. No one will know who I am or what happened to me or my family. It's the perfect place to become a completely different person.

After being here a few hours, I found out I'm very good at compelling people. All I have to do is believe what I'm say and voila. Just like magic.
I've also found out that this town is very boring, which is why I haven't been writing much. It seems like everyone is at work or school. Crap, I need to do that! After walking around all this time I completely forgot that I need to sign up for school. They'll probably put me in a grade below since I missed out on the first part of the school year. Now that I think about it, this will be the first time that I'm in school in the past three years. I've never even been to a real high school! The only classes I've been taking these past years were online.
Once they admitted me to the hospital and I started chemo therapy, my parents withdrew me from school and decided I would do my work in my hospital room. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. What parents makes their child continue school when the kid is probably going to die anyways? I was on that same boat. But I guess I thought that I'd die quicker that what actually ended up happening. You see, the thing is my dad is, or was, a doctor. He was an OB-GYN so it wasn't really in the cancer field but he still understood some stuff. Anyways, he would always ask my oncologist, Dr. Howard Joe, about how I was doing and, according to him, my cancer seemed to be stable. So my dad thought that as long as I still had a shot at living then I still had to go to school. I, obviously, wasn't too pleased about it but it was apparently "for my best interest" and "the right thing to do."
As I walked into the school office, I decided that I would go by my middle name, Riley. All my life people have called me Madison, my first name, but I've decided a new life means a new name.
The secretary greeted me with a super happy smile. She gave off the impression that she has worked at the school for awhile because, when she saw me, I noticed she didn't recognize who I was and, considering this is a small school, she pretty much knows everyone. She was a short woman with blonde hair and highlights, bright blue eyes, and dangling earrings.
"Hello, what can I do for you today?" the lady said.
"Hi, um, I was wondering if I could have the paperwork that's required to become a student at this school? Mrs., uhh, Johnson?" I saw the nameplate on her desk which stated that she was Barbara Johnson.
"You'll have to have a parent or guardian with you in order to access that paperwork ma'am. If you wouldn't mind coming back later with them, then I'd be happy to give those to you!"
I could tell by the smell of her neck that she was human, so I decided to make things a little less difficult. I looked straight into her eyes and said, "Please give me the paperwork to become a registered student. Right now." In her eyes I saw that my compulsion had worked so I backed away from being so close to her face.
"Of course, I'll get those for you right away. It might take a little while sweetheart, I can't for the life of me remember where I filed them. Aha! Here they are! Alright just make sure to fill everything out and bring it back to me and then we can work on a school I.D. and your schedule."
"Thank you so much! Have a great day!" I said after placing the paper work into my side bag.

As I walked out of the "land of the Timberwolves", as the posters said, I began to realize there was another thing I forgot. I needed to find a house. I decided it would be better to live with a human than to find a house to live in by myself. After all, I could blend in more if I had a family to belong to.
While walking past an apartment complex, I saw it. Or more like her. A woman who looked like she was moving into one of the apartments. She had a ton of boxes in and around her car and she was talking to a man that was handing her a key. I decided to listen in.
"The rules of the complex are simple, no loud noises after 11:00 p.m., no pets unless they are approved by me, and if you do anything that I see unfit I have the right to kick you out of your apartment. If the rent is not paid 10 days after it's due, then you will be asked to leave. Ya got it?" the man said.
"Of course, thank you very much! Do you mind hel-" BANG. The lady was cut off by the man slamming the door behind him. I decided it was time to do something.
" Excuse me ma'am, do you need help carrying these boxes into your apartment? I promise I'm not a serial killer or anything like that, I just noticed you didn't have any help."
"Hmmmm, you know telling me you're not a serial killer is exactly what a serial killer would say. But, considering I have all these boxes, I would reallyyyy appreciate your help. Do you mind grabbing those over there" she said pointing to the boxes on the steps "and I'll get these? Then we can head up to the apartment."
"Of course, lead the way. I'm Riley, by the way."
"I'm Melissa."
"What made you decide to move here?" She was a curvy woman with long brown hair. She didn't look very old, she looked like she may have just gotten out of college.
"Well, actually, I'm moving back. I grew up here , but when I headed off to college to get my medical degree, I went to school in Texas. I figured that I would probably have a better chance at getting a job in a small town like this so I decided to come back and work for the hospital here in Mystic Falls."
"Wait so, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?"
"I'm 28, I stayed in Texas for a few years before heading back here. How old are you?"
"Oh, I'm, umm" this was not a question I was expecting. Although the question itself wasn't weird, it still threw me off guard. Technically, I'm 18 but with the chemo and malnourishment that I had in my human life, I looked more like I was 16. "I'm 17, and I just got here too, only I don't really have anywhere to stay. You see, I kind of ran away. My family, they, uh, they're not really around anymore so I, um, decided to move here."
"Oh my," the lady, Melissa got very quiet. We reached her apartment door and she sat down the boxes to unlock it. When we walked into the room, she set down her boxes and turned around to me. "So you're saying that you're an orphan?"
"Um, well, I've never really thought about myself like that but I suppose I am. My father always talked about himself growing up here and I decided to give the town a try."
"Oh honey, shouldn't you go to a foster care agency or something? I mean I know you're 17 and you'll be out of it in no time but it'll be better than having no where to go, no place to call home."
Oh no, this was not what I had in mind when I thought out this conversation. I just thought that she would take pity on me and ask if I wanted to live with her, but now she's telling me to join foster care?! I was still standing in the doorway because I hadn't been invited in yet. I looked straight into her eyes, "Invite me into your apartment please."
"Come in," she responded automatically.
I walked in and placed the boxes I was holding next to where she put hers. And then I grabbed onto her shoulders and looked into her eyes again, "I'm going to live with you now. You are going to tell people that you are my aunt. My parents passed away in a house fire. I was the only one to make it out alive. After you moved back from Texas, you decided to take me where you grew up to finish high school. You are my new legal guardian. My mom was your step-sister. That is how we are related. Do you understand?" I had to keep in mind that she grew up in this town. Other people probably knew her and knew she didn't have a sibling.
"I am your aunt. You live with me now because I am your legal guardian. My step-sister, your mother, passed away in a house fire along with your father, you were the only one to make it out alive. I decided to take you where I grew up to finish up your high school. I understand."
"Good, now lets get the rest of those boxes, ok?"
She got out of her dazed state and looked around, confused. When she saw me she smiled. "Ok!"
