Sam was admitted to the hospital the other day after a particularly difficult hunt, werewolves, of course.
Neither Gabriel nor Cas had enough grace to heal him properly, or they'd be at risk of losing their powers altogether. So, on that note, Sam was currently in a hospital in Minnesota. Who knew werewolves had a thing for one of the coldest states in the country?
Speaking of that, it was winter, and getting pretty close to Christmas.
Since Jack, Mary, and Bobby were still back at the bunker, Dean was the one currently calling them to tell them what happened.
"Mom, he's fine. He's pretty beat up, but-- No, don't drive all the way over here. He'll be fine, he'll just be here for like, two days... H-hey! Tell Jack to put that down! That's not--"
Gabriel tuned out of the conversation on the phone, going back to looking at Sam. He looked like he was having a nightmare, he was so tired and battered. He wasn't in a coma or anything, but he needed as much sleep as he could get.
When he was awake, he was doped up on morphine and it was pretty funny. At one point he was certain the lamp, which was just a normal lamp, was some kind of oversized moth and it freaked him out.
Despite Sam being just fine, Gabe was still overprotective and got worried very easily. He was possibly more concerned than Dean, which was rumored to be completely impossible, and for good reason.
I guess they'd been to the hospital, gotten injured, and died enough times that they knew they'd both pull through.
His thoughts were interrupted by Cas entering the room.
"Hello, Gabriel."
"Hey, Cassie."
"Dean is still on the phone with Mary, I think Jack found a sword."
Gabriel chuckled lightly. "My kind of kid."
Cas smiled. "He certainly has gained some adventurous habits."
There was a light tap on the door, followed by one of the doctors stepping inside.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Hansen. I'm just popping in to say that Sam is going to be able to leave within the next two to three days."
"Oh, cool!" Gabriel replied. "Thanks."
"Of course! Are you two family?" Dr. Hansen asked.
"We are." Cas said.
"Well, he's certainly quite lucky to have such dedicated relatives."
"Ah, thank you." Gabe said.
"By the way, I'm switching out from the night shift of the other doctor who was previously over-seeing Sam's recovery."
Gabriel nodded and Dr. Hansen left the room. She was pretty tall, long light brown hair tied into a braid.
"You should do something else besides sit here." Cas said.
"Mm, I'm good. Plus, what else is there to do? This is a hospital."
"I think there's a gift shop."
Gabriel perked up. "You think it has candy?"
"Probably."

Inevitably, around two hours later, Gabriel returned with two bags of things he didn't actually need. But however dropped them upon seeing Sam was now conscious and on a lower dose of painkillers, and much more coherent.
