" Good evening, flight 769- this is your captain speaking. We will shortly be arriving to Ottawa international airport. Please ensure you are all in your seats and have your seat-belts fastened. We will begin our descend."

The raspy male voice cuts out from the speakers above. I let out a small sigh as I tighten my belt around my waist. My hand clutched tightly around my phone as I close my eyes. I hate flying.

A small cough alerts me that someone is here and I open my eyes. An air-hostess - a small, pasty blonde- is smiling down at me. Her tight bun atop her head is keeping her little uniform black hat in place.

" Excuse me, Miss Henning, would you like anything before we land?" her voice holds an overly sweet tone. To stop myself from rolling my eyes at her I look down at my lap.

"No thank you. I don't have any change on me." I don't like carrying loose change on me. It makes me paranoid about pick-pocketing.

"Your host family has offered to pay for any purchases you make, Miss. You dont have to worry about money." she beamed down at me. My host family has offered to pay? There is no way in hell I will buy anything. I will not take their money. I haven't even met them yet!

"uh... thanks but im not really hungry right now. I uh..." I try think of a valid excuse to justify my point. I look at the seat in-front of me and see a white paper bag in the pouch attached to the chair. Bingo.

" I get motion sickness from the plane."

She looks down at me for a few seconds before nodding and smiling again. She must have given up on trying to get me to eat. Thank god for having a weak stomach.

"Of course, Miss." She looks behind her then turns back to me. "We'll be landing soon. I will be back once we're on the ground to help escort you inside," her voice shakes slightly at the end. She seems nervous. I look down at her name tag and smile.

"Thank you, Miss Steyne."

She nods once more before making her way down the isle. I feel the altitude drop and I shut my eyes again. Did I mention I hate flying? As we make our way down, I peak through my eyes to see the bright city of Ottawa.

The ancient looking buildings standing out in the orange sky. The glass windows of the tall office buildings reflecting the molten background. Bright greens, yellows and reds standing out on the ground from the trees, giving an indication that its the autumn months. Bending black roads that have small stalls and markets on the street sides next to them. The streets look empty from up here. I feel myself forget to breathe as I take in the sight  before me. Am I really going to be living here? In this beautiful, ancient city? For a whole year? God i really did hit the jackpot in the student exchange system.

What about my host family? What were they like? Were they nice? They seemed nice enough if they offered to pay for my food on the plane. Did they have a lot of money? What if they were celebrities?

I snap out of my thought when I feel the plane dip lower. 'god this is going to be the death of me..' . My eyes naturally shut again and i cling onto my phone.

"Breathe Blaine...one, two, three, one, two..." I mutter as the plane does one final drop. I feel my stomach sink and my heart nearly leap out my chest as we hit the tarmac with a huge thud . Empty nausea takes over and i reach for the paper bag in-front of me. Good thing I never ate anything...

When the plane finally slows down and cruises down the landing strip, I finally open my eyes. My breathing calms down but the nausea hangs around. Stupid flying. As said, I notice the air-hostess from before approach me. She also looks like she dreaded the landing. I smile at the irony.

"Oh dear...that was a dizzying landing. No matter, I'm here to help escort you Miss Henning." She stands a bit to the side to give me space to get out. "Your hand luggage will be brought in for you- so dont worry about collecting it."

I look at her, then back down to my backpack. I dont want to leave it, but my laptop and spare change of clothes are still in the cupboard above. To many bags...it should be fine. I put a lock on the zips and I have the keys.

"Okay, but is it fine if i bring my backpack? It has my medication in it." She gives me a small nod before gesturing down the isle with her pale arm.

I shuffle out of the plane and hang back until Miss Steyne exits off the carrier. Once she spots me she starts walking to the 'arrivals' entrance, looking back at me as in ' follow me'. I shuffle after her as we walk through the doors. The now dark night sky has brought a cold breeze.

Once inside I cant help my mouth from falling open. Unlike the ancient looking office buildings and houses, the airports interior is a modern make. There must be at least eight stair cases leading straight up. The pure white walls and glass shop windows are all glistening as if they were brand new. Families crowding the glass door for their loved ones to join them.

My host family is waiting on the other side.
