"I'm right here! Mom! Are you listening to me!? Come on! Fine. At least tell me why we are in a hospital waiting room and everyone is crying like our dad just died or something." Its like no one is even listening to me. I mean I may have been kinda bratty in the car but did they have to give me the silent treatment. Especially in a hospital. It could disturb the spirits.
Does that mean everyone was alright after the crash? What even happened? How did I get here? It kinda feels like I just popped up here. I mean, I don't even remember getting in the car and driving here. On top of that, everyone is giving me the effing silent treatment! Ugh. Family. Why do people have to be so difficult.
"Mr and Mrs. Hastings?" This young female nurse walked into the room. Why was she asking for my parents? Who are we visiting?
"Yes!?" My mom and dad practically yelled at the same time. They stood up and walked quickly over to her wiping the tears and worry from their face. Bailey turned her head to look and she wasn't crying. Not even a tear in her eye. But she was pale. She looked like she was going to puke. The boys were watching Cartoon Network. I don't think they knew what was happening. Like me.
"She can be seen now. Just know that she is still unconscious. Her vitals are stable and we see no symptoms of brain death. We only have one other conclusion." My mother and father started weeping. Bailey ran over to the garbage and threw up.
"Eww!!!" James yelled pinching his nose. He was the second youngest. "Bailey puked!"
"We think she is in a coma." The nurse looked sad but almost like a forced sadness. Like she was trying to look sad for my family's sake. How compassionate.
A coma? Whos in a coma? Ok that's it. I thought maybe my grandpa had a heart attack and I slept on the way here and that's why I don't remember but that's not the case. I am completely lost now. I didn't yell "what was going" on because everyone one seemed kinda touchy. So I just rolled with the punches.
The young, kinda scrawny, nurse lead everybody to the room of the person we were so sad about. I expected it to be a cousin I never knew or something, which is a little weird but not impossible.
I was kind of standing outside the door because the room was too crowded.
"Hi honey. I don't think you can here me but we love you so much. I want you to know that." My mom was crying as she said that. But who is it she's loves so much? Do I have a sister I never knew about? This is so weird.
"Jess..... You're so stupid! If only you would have worn your damn seatbelt! We wouldn't be here and you wouldnt be dead!" Bailey wasn't sad. She was mad. And she said the girls name was Jess? That's my name? Why was she saying my name?
"Honey, she isn't dead. She is in a coma." My mother reassured her.
"Well she might as well be dead!"
I couldn't take this anymore. Who is this person! "What in the hell is going on! Somebody talk to me!"
At that moment Bailey turned and looked at me. She was pale again. Her mouth agape.
"Jessica?" She started walking towards me! About time!
"Bailey. Nothing is over there." My mother looked concerned for her. Like she thought she was crazy for talking to me.
"She's right there! She's standing in the doorway!"
"Nobody is there Bay." Was my mother trying to keep her from me? Was she trying to act like I wasn't there?
Bailey walked up to me. "How are you here?"
"I'm not sure. I think I fell asleep in the car on the way here. I just wanna know why we are even here. Who is in a coma that everyone is so distraught about?"
"You. You are supposed to be in a coma." Me? How is that possible. I'm right here.
My mother stopped trying to stop Bailey. Maybe she was finally willing to acknowledge that I was there.
"Come here." Bailey motioned me to walk over to the bed. "Look."
I stood there staring at the bed. How is this possible. There is no way.
Its me
