The smell of powder deodorant reminds me
Of two boys I don't enjoy thinking about
The first, my first heartbreak
The second, my first kiss
I avoided powder deodorants because of
Unsavory memories associated
And memories still so sweet to me
it heats my cheeks with shame
I'm now rewiring my brain
to associate powder deodorants with
Reclamation
I'm tired of men dictating my actions
I'm tired of fear and pain dictating
What happens to me
I'm ready for powder deodorant not to smell
Like 2015, 2016
I'm ready for powder deodorant to smell
Like me
