“Did you know apart from the trips to Tanzania and Spain, Efosa also got Givenchy and Hermes bags as well as jewelries from that place in America we visited last year and also ordered the new google pixel phone alongside the Iphone8 he had previously gotten for Nmachi”. These were the words Nimi had said that scattered Onome’s head as she sat in bewilderment, only being able to utter I am shook.
She couldn’t believe he would ever see another woman; after all she’s done for him and they’ve gone through; they are like that; one minute they are craving your love and care, the next minute its another woman’s thighs they bury their heads in. Well, not her Efosa, not the boy she grew to love and loved her back despite the odds.
As she sat in thought, she could hear Nimi’s voice over the hairs on her head, who knows, she might not be the only one he’s cheating with.
Efosa had been her university lover, he was Edo by birth but stayed in Abuja, they met in her second year while he was in his final year and was plagued with some challenges;project firstly and some financial issues. His younger siblings had just entered private universities, this meant a cut to his allowances.
It was at the shopping mall on campus they bumped into each other, not exactly bumping but their gazes were fixed for an awkwardly long time. She thought she felt something like fireworks on October 1st. But of course, why not; He was a sight to behold, brown tanned skin,6″ 3 with a nice accent( not British anyway) and he had his way around the females as there was gossip in the corners of womandom that he was quite the deep plunger.
It was then his supposed G tapped him O boy, we no go pay comot here, man dey h. As she tried to quickly turn away from the stare so she wouldn’t be caught, there was a collision with a rather aggressive plus-sized lady who was about to go sumo on her when Efosa appeared, it was like he was flash for a millisecond, apologized and picked her up. It was there he introduced himself, you were almost eaten today, lol; I’m Efosa btw, she was tempted to say ‘I know and smile’ but it would seem awkward, finally she said I’m Onome ( hope you can pronounce that).
A couple of laughs were shared as they walked back to the counter, she however paid for the things they bought.
Surprisingly, he did not ask for her contact nor did she, as they waved their goodbyes, Kanyi started, guy, that babe is entirely into you, why you no collect number?. All he could mutter was, I have a good feeling about this.
Later that evening, she found herself in his IG dms; hi, its………………uhm Onome from earlier today. Hoping he hadn’t met other Onome’s.
It wasn’t until about three days he replied her message, by which time she had started hating herself for sliding into his DM. Heyyyyyyyy, oops sorry for replying late, I remember, she might have eaten us both that evening you know,if its worth anything, can we hangout tonight, lemme make it up to you, for replying late.
Her happiness knew no bounds, okay, I’ll call you; with that he sent his number. This would be the first of many like these they both had thought to themselves. Exciting moments created either in hugs or smooches or while they mekwed or running away on weekends, most of their sex time on campus she was gaged.
Against her supposed better judgement, she decided she would stick with him, friends had said he might be one of those low key fuckboys just enjoy his preek while its yours one of them had said.
Four years on and they were still together, she had managed to persuade her dad into giving him an office in his multi billion naira company, and of course the salary was great. They could afford holiday trips and the sort, with time he became a familiar face with the family as they planned their future together.
It was until one fateful evening, she had invited him over for dinner, called several times but no answer; she was becoming very pensive, as a call from a strange number came in.
