At that time like today

Cold.

Everything was cold and dead.

Running down the rain-soaked street, our faces were obscured by darkness. Every now and then, a car passed by, racing through one of the puddles and vanishing just as quickly as it appeared. Pedestrians covered in raincoats struggled to evade our approach, captivated by our sight; a day like any other.

Fear was taking over my whole body, my heart raced as I tried to get a hold of your hand, but you pulled it away, denying me with a determined gaze. Like countless times before, we fled from something, not knowing the what and why. But this time, something was different, something felt off. Nothing was as it should be.

The sky turned darker by each elapsing minute. A sense of foreboding was in the air, reverberating in my bones. And again I heard that whisper, again I felt a thousand eyes in my back. I was willing to cry, to break down on the spot. Who was there?

You guided me to a railway station, people staring at us, our faces, our clothing, the markings covering our bodies. They were glancing anxiously into my red eyes. The station was covered in graffiti and smelled of sweat and piss. We rushed down the subway stairs. Instead of boarding the waiting train, you leapt across the rusty rails, barely making it. On the other side, we made our way back up, where you led me to a dilapidated house just outside the station. It was grey and meaningless, just like everything else here.

I slowed down, trying to catch my breath and take in my surroundings. A crow sat on the porch, mocking us formally. A chorus of it's brethren joined its squawking, their black, beady eyes firmly locked on us, watching, waiting.

Suddenly, you reached for my hand, pulling me closer to the house. Your eyes, as dark as ourselves, stared at me. For the first time I recognised the fear you carried, crushing your heart to nothingness. I wanted to say something, anything, but you just shook your head, your eyes growing even wider. Everything was muted as you spoke.

"I know, we did something wrong."

I didn't understand. We just tried to get by, making it by a hair's breadth. We did what we were told to.

The silence was disrupted by the sound of sirens coming from the station. In a matter of seconds, blue and red lights lit up the area.

"Run, or they'll catch you too."

Who? Why? I tried to wrap my head around the situation, but I couldn't focus. A single tear ran down your pale cheek.

"I will always love you."

Again, the silence was pierced, but this time, by a gunshot. My ears throbbed. Everything blurred. Your eyes faded as you dropped to the ground. The crows burst into excited laughter.

Don't leave me...

Hey! I'm glad that you come so far.

This here is a really short oneshot, which originally was meant to be the caption of a post from me on Instagram. However I didn't want to share this story with only the couple of peoples on Instagram, so I decided to upload it here too! :D

As always, I'm glad over feedback, suggestions what I can do better or ideas for upcoming chapters. :)

As soon as I have new ideas, I will continue this story. I hope we will see us again! C:

By the way, every used picture here is mine, if you want to share this story or the pictures, please ask.

(This is the english version of the story "Krähengelächter", there are no differents. But my english isn't really well, so I need a friends help, who's translating this story (at this time a BIIG thanks to blind_cosplay and guardian0ftheblind (instagram) you're doing it soo good!! :33) so in the english version it will take longer to upload new chapters. I hope you'll understand this!)

See ya~
