"Hi. My name is Tatum, I am 17 years old. A incoming senior at Wichita High School and I am here today because I have suffered from depression and my mum wants me to fix up me life."
I sit back down and look around the room to all these faces. Most are older but there are a few just like me, young and depressed.
My early childhood years were my happiest memories. I was a daddy's girl. wherever he went, I went with him. he would take me to his work sites and after a long day, we would come back home to my mum and be a happy family. Five years later, my brother came along. All in all, piecing things together, I think that my brother's birth tore apart put family. Ever since then, things slowly changed. My father left, leaving my single mum to take care of us with her low paying job and high rents We grew older, and things kept changing. my father remarried and they had kids. Since he had a new family, he spent less and less tome with us until we would only see him a maximum of three times per month.
My mom became stressed out because she was completely on her own so our family of three kind of all broke down. You could say I got in wi th the wrong crown, but all I was doing was trying to get rid of my problems and pain. All I know is th at I fell deep. So deep that no one, could fix me.
My mind was set on getting drunk and stoned to the point that i couldnt control myself. My emotions were too strong and I needed to get away from the real world. Away from all the drama, away from the sadness, away from myself.
When I hit rock bottom, thats when I realised that this was breaking my family even more, so with help from my mum I went to rehab and got clean.
From then to today, I am 83 days clean and going strong. I changed my mind set in there, and cleaned up my act and now I am ready to face senior year. Even though I go to support group for depression, I am still a new person and as happy as I'll ever be.
I am Tatum Rose Sinclair and this is my story.
