Dimitri felt torn. He just stood there as the sound of the slammed door echoed in his ears.
"Whoa! I'm confused"
He turned abruptly. His eyes darting spears of fire as he glared at Mildred.
"You're still here?" he asked, angrily. She shrugged. "Where am i supposed to be?"
He smiled, but being the fool she was, she couldn't tell how angry he was. "Don't worry, Mildred. I'll show you where you can be and would be in a few."
He kept his smile as he walked towards her and it took her by surprise he grabbed her hair and together with her clothes pushed her outside.
Her face was livid as he slammed the door against her.
Sighing, he leaned against the closed door and slid down slowly, ending up with his head in his hands.
************************************
He didn't come after her. That was the most annoying thing.
She had been here, tossing about on the bed, waiting. But he didn't come.
And its been three hours already.
Dusk was settling and she was convinced she wasn't sleeping on this bed with him.
She recognised the naked woman as the slut from the club. Mildred or whatever her name was. She preferred to call her bitch in her mind.
She was so disappointed and annoyed.
She felt cheated on...She liked Dimitri and he loved her. She was so sure. She was about giving her heart to him and then voila! he went ahead and fornica---cheated on her.
She was drifting off into dreamless sleep about two hours later when the door opened and closed again. She smelled his rich cologne and knew he was beside her on the bed.
She closed her already closed eyes and admitted it was foolish since she had her back to him. He couldn't see her either way.
He sighed. Deeply. Sadly.
She shifted.
"Reggie...." he started slowly.
Please don't Reggie me. I'm mad at you. Let me be mad at you. So don't Reggie me.
She closed her eyes even tightly.
"Regan I know you're awake. Sit up, please"
What was that in his voice? Whatever it was, it was raw. Straight from the source.
She still wouldn't sit up. She wouldn't make this easy for him.
As if he read her mind, he said "Reggie please don't make this so hard for me. I'm not used to explaining myself to people. Its already hard as it is." he said quietly.
His voice broke her resolve and she sat up.
A mistake.
Big mistake.
There was so much pain in his eyes. He looked like he carried the burden of the world on his strong shoulders.
His vivid green eyes were lifeless and in a moment she believed he loved her. She saw its depth.
"Regan i didn't do what you think i did, OK? I don't even know how she knew my house. The bell rang and i opened it and there she was. She just walked into the living and room and pulled off all her clothes. She's gone now and i promise you she wont disturb again" he rushed and exhaled a breath as he finished, looking at her expectantly.
How could she refute his explanation when he was staring at her lie that?
With his heart in his eyes?
She sighed deeply. "Dimitri its okay. Its not like we're dating or something."
Dimitri felt like a nuke went off in his chest. Her words hurt like hell, but he understood. It was his words being thrown back at him.
Then she smiled and settled back to sleep.
