Athena's POV
The summer house. My favourite place in the world.
A small smile managed to creep on my face as the familiar sea breeze blew through the car window, reminding me of what feels like home.
"I'm so excited we're gonna have all of you back again for a summer," mom grinned from the driver's seat as she glanced over at me.
"Me too, I've missed it the past few years," you agreed.
Since you had gotten older, you didn't have time to spend the entire summer here the past few years. With your classes, your job, and just generally being constantly on the move, you didn't have the time to settle for the few months of summer. This year, you made a point of it.
"And you get to see Rye again, have you spoken to him at all lately?" she asked, lifting her eyebrows teasingly.
"Not much, sometimes we chat for a bit but I don't think he really has much time," I shrugged, getting excited as we pulled into the driveway of the house, the familiar porch and red door making me instantly nostalgic.
I hopped out of the car, running back to the trunk to grab all my luggage you had packed for the summer. As I was throwing my bag over my shoulder, I heard Rye's mom, Melissa, calling my mom's name excitedly.
I looked over as she came running towards us, engulfing my mom in a bear hug as they both squealed excitedly. They had been best friends since they were kids, and only really got to see each other during the summers when we all came to the house.
"Oh my goodness, Athena, you look gorgeous!" she cheered as she came over to me, placing her hands on either side of my face and kissing my forehead, making me chuckle.
"Thank you," I grinned as I pulled her in for a hug.
"Let me get the boys to help with your things!" she offered, turning to call out to them.
"That's okay, we got it," I smiled at her, picking up my stuff, my mom getting hers. Melissa grabbed a few extra things and we tried our best to get everything in the house on the first trip.
I went into my bedroom, the familiar scenery putting me at ease. I opened the white curtains, giving me a view of the water, the loud waves crashing against the shore. I sat on the edge of the bed, the purple bed sheets spread perfectly across the mattress, the photo of Rye and I still set on the dresser.
I picked it up and looked at it, running my index finger along the edge of the frame, almost dropping it when a familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Long time no see," I heard Rye say, his smile prominent as he opened his arms.
I got up and scurried over to him, falling into his arms as I squeezed him tight.
"I haven't seen you in so long!!" I exclaimed, briefly looking him up and down, taking in the differences in his appearance since I last saw him. He looked pretty much the same for the most part, the same boy I knew and loved so well.
"I know! You look great," he smiled, ruffling my hair jokingly like he always did.
"You're still an ass, Beaumont," I teased, playing it cool despite the fact that my heart was racing inside of my chest.
"Some things never change," he laughed, "the twins are excited to see you, they were just swimming though."
"My babies!" I cheered. Sammy and Shaun had always been like little brothers to me, and the love I had for them was as if they were my biological brothers.
I skipped down the stairs quickly, going out the door without shoes on to look for the twins. My feet sank in the warm sand, the familiar feeling making me smirk to myself again. The sun was strong and warm that day, and I jogged over to where I saw the boys drying off.
"My favorite twins!!" I screamed as I ran to them. They yelled excitedly as we ran towards each other, hugging tightly.
"We've missed you so much, it's not the same here without you or Rye," Shaun told me, making me give him a sympathetic smile.
"Well we're here now, and we're all gonna have the best summer ever," I told them, squishing them again, not caring that their wet hair was soaking through the bottom of my top.
I turned around to see Rye standing at the bottom of the front steps, and I could swear I saw a grin spread across his face as he looked at us across the beach.
I always had time to try and think about him less after the summers were over, to try and convince myself to get over him, that he didn't see me that way, but the second I see him again, everything comes rushing back, and he's basically all I can think about.
