It's been five years since that incident. It still feels like it was just a bad dream and we will wake up and everything will be normal. Sadly we know those memories will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
People say that she ran away. Why? Where? No answer, the newspapers even stated that we killed her. But why would we do that? She was our friend; we have heard all kinds of rumors. The file regarding her disappearance has been closed and reopened so many times. And none of us have been able to say anything about what happened that fateful night.
Our lawyer told us not to speak of that story in court. Her parents told us to forget it. They are the only ones who believe us for now. We have been in and out of therapy, it's not working. Finally we have decided it's time for everyone to know what happened that night.
We need to let it out. We have been holding back for way too long. We have been blaming ourselves knowing it was no one's fault or was it?
She would not have wanted us to be like this. That incident changed our lives, cost us our friend. We still talk about how different things would be if we also had been on that bus back home. But the if's don't matter now. What we went through then was like a horror movie only it was real.
It taught us to cherish people while you have the time. Because you never know what fate has in store.
