"Hey, Honesty?"
I turn around while my toes wiggle dipped in the lukewarm water in the homemade pool.
The party is soaring and everyone around has started to lose their minds for the night.
And Sasha Gregor, my twin sister, calls me with a slur in her tone that tells me she had enough of the booze and the duty lies on my lap, to babysit her.
It is irritating, obviously, but if I want to argue with my parents to let me go to Texas for my post graduation, I have to listen to them which involves me acting as a nanny to someone of my age.
Urgh.
"Ash, sit down."
I guide her besides me and she stumbles but manages.
A red cup lingers in her hand which is half filled with some kind of wheat beer. I had a taste of it earlier but I am not that kind of a girl who needs a kick to enjoy life.
I already have a good sac of inspiration to last long which will definitely take me to places that I am destined to go to.
"Why aren't you enjoying the party, big sissy?"
"What makes you think I am not, Ash?"
"You.. didn't...," She says with a laziness in her voice or probably she forgot what she had to say. I don't hurry her even because where's the fun in that? My sister already is a chatter box but when she is profoundly drunk, I find peace in her reluctance to gather herself.
Moreover, who wouldn't love a modicum of peace in the middle of such a chaotic life?
"There you are!"
Ben Weatherhood stalks to my side with his usual energetic tune. His naked chest is welcomed at first and he scrunches his chest at me as if those pectorals are blinking at me.
That surely puts in me a bout of laughter while my sister has already laid down across the concrete floor and the red cup is now empty with no spills around.
"BENNY! why do you like to nipple wink at me?"
I ask my best friend for life when he bend down to my level and points at his body.
"Maybe because I like the way you react to my nakedness. Ahan?"
His head bobs and messes the bunch of brown hair which are thick and perm.
He's a total goofball and that's second adorable thing about it, first being that he's totally a bad flirt. He tries but fails seamlessly.
"Or maybe because you have a nipple fetish yourself?"
I quirk my brows at him and he lies down to my other side so now I am going to take care of two people at once that I care about the most.
I just hope no more people land up lying down around my feet tonight.
"Not funny, Essie, and you look like a fisher woman sitting on a stool waiting for a fish with wrong bait."
I look at him like really with careful perusal.
"I suppose drinking makes you imagine quite good, Benny, because apparently there's no fish or any bait here in this tiny pool. It is just my feet, chlorine water and some weed leaves floating like dead toads."
He leans on his elbows to sneak a peek at the pool.
"You're so full of shit, Essie. There's no weed."
I laugh at his stupidity. He can be so gullible when he's out of his mind which is usually the case.
"And you're such a tard. If there were any weed lingering or floating here, don't you think I would have had more than two bodies lying at my feet tonight?"
We both laugh continuously after making a fool of each other and as soon as he starts to fall asleep, his slow remark makes me wonder can he be more right than this?
"Uncle Dan named you wrong, Essie. You're far from honesty."
