East Canal Roadway, The Mirage: July 29th 2020: 2:19 AM
They had dropped off the kidnapping victim just a few yards away from the nearest prescient along the river canal roadway.
But the Mirage had yet to go off down the road after the next challenge in The Mastermind's little game.
Outside a crowd had gathered around the parked supervehicle, which had yet to turn invisible due to it's cloaking device having not been activated.
For some strange reason, Shadow Knight wasn't bothering to activate it.
Some of the people were gawking, some were taking pictures.
Some of the more vindictive jackass variety actually attempted to lift, vandalize or publicly deface the car with their urine.
Detective Rene Alverez had to admit, part of her kind of liked watching those people get the shock of their lives (especially the one who tried to piss all over the car) when the Mirage's anti-theft/unauthorized personal access system kicked on...and they went running away like rabbits after they had stopped twitching on the ground.
She was glad no one outside could look in and see her in the passenger side seat with the Knight of the Night.
That would have been a P.R disaster considering his Vigilante status.
Especially with sensationalist hounds and social media now a days, they probably would have labelled the two of them as some inappropriate nonsense like "partners in crime and in bed" or something of that nature.
She liked Shadow Knight and respected him, but not THAT much.
Not that the media would have cared, she had seen good officers' lives thrown into a fix with their piranha like craze to substitute theories as facts.
Heaven knows that Beatrice Fuller woman would have gone to town with such controversy.
So far so good though, they had managed to rescue one of the five victims of the Masterminds game.
However, they had just been sitting here on the side of the road parked idly for almost half an hour since delivering prosecutor Bill Miner to safety.
The Mastermind had told them they had all the time in the world to solve the location of the clue to the next challenge and the next victim...but this was a bit much.
"Uh..." Detective Rene Alverez said confused, "Why aren't you driving us off to the next one?"
"I'm contemplating about something he said..." Shadow Knight answered.
"The riddle?" Detective Alverez asked surprised, "It's a bridge. Problem is which bridge he wants us to go to..."
"Not THAT riddle..." Shadow Knight corrected, "I'm thinking about the riddle of the victims. He said that if I had solved the riddle he asked during the Seven Elevators..."
"Wait..." Detective Rene Alverez asked surprised, "You were there during the Seven Elevators?"
Shadow Knight paused, he had been caught.
He had slipped.
Oh well...it was bound to happen sometime.
Might as well tell her the truth, especially about Mastermind's riddle he had asked him about back then.
"....Yes, I was." Shadow Knight confirmed, "It's one of the cases I worked with your father on. I met your father back during my first year. He and I weren't exactly partners like you and I are now. But we worked with one another. He helped me out during the Brain of Crime's reign of terror...and I helped him out with The Mastermind when he first showed up."
