The rest of the day went as usual. Teachers yelling and giving home work. Rumors passed through the hallway. You think at an all boys school the drama would be less. Not at all. Who dated who. Who did what to who. Who cheated on who. Of course I had to know it all are else I was considered a hermit who lived under a rock to Ava. The event that took place earlier came up a few times, but not the way that I saw it. "Some new kid thinks he is big shot on campus and called Matt and Theo gay.." some one said to another in a whispered tone as I walked by. "I heard since he was dis-invited to the end of the year party so he was gonna crash it" another one mentioned. It would of been social suicide for me to do what I wanted to, and that was to invite him. Then again it was my party, but I couldn't afford any more attention on me after the ridiculed response to my play invite. Lunch time came and I sat for the 45 minutes listening to Matt's hook up storys and Ava calling him a pig. Then it was 20 minutes of "she better not be going" and "do you think I'll look good in this" my same answer to everything with her is "Of course. Whatever you say." She didn't usually catch on she was too caught up in her own hype. I got shocked when she slapped the table with a "are you even listening!?" I replied "yes, of course"
"Then what did I just say?" she said
"Something about the dress?" I asked hoping I struck gold. I didn't.
"Ugh and we were gonna hook up tonight. Sucks for you." she said with a snark in her voice.
She stood up and left only after taking her lunch with her: an apple. Her sexual taunts usually don't affect me. Something about her, just didn't do it for me like it would've done for any other guy. But of course she couldn't know that. The rest of the day went by just as harsh as the first half, and then I got on the bus. Unlike others I like taking the bus as opposed to private cars with drivers, which are not permitted on school grounds. Having a driver is like saying "I'm better than you because I have more money", which I'm sure any of my fellow class mates would of love to have said. Their was one part of the bus I did not enjoy.
"Hey, you good-for-nothing bastard. Did you listen to that one?" she said while sitting down next to me.
"Listen I'm sorry Ava I just had a lot on my mind." I said hope she would buy that. She didn't.
"So what? Now im not on your mind? I'm not important enough?" She said yelling now. Their was only one other hope i'd leave this situation alive.
"Im sorry, your right, I love you." I said appeasing her.
"well... I guess I could forgive you if you give me your opinion on..." she started rambling now on the next most important thing in the world.
"hmm, ya" i began to say, she didn't notice.
I sat quietly only mumbling along until her stop came. She got up and left without a good bye only a "the party better be awesome." To be completely honest my idea of the best party is having the guys over with some beer and cards, not a catered black-tie event. My mother usually planned these things and then left with my dad before everyone came with a "we are leaving and wont be home till tomorrow night so make sure all the fun you have is cleaned up by then." She left handing me $200 and winking at me on my way out. $100 for drinks and $100 for a cleaning crew. My popularity and how i appeared to others was very important to her. She didn't want me to reflect poorly on our family or the company. That completely contradicts the fact of her leaving me in $2000 cloths to throw a huge party with under-aged attendants. The way I would of like this to go was to open my front door, go to my car, and go to the super market and get some beer. But the way it really went was much different. I went down the elevator from my pent house into the town-car that the driver was holding the door to open for me then going to a fancy liqueur store where the driver, who was of legal age, went with the money and bought the drinks. Normally, I love the luxurious amenities that I have, but sometimes I wish I was just a normal kid. I didn't like people seeing me as 'that rich kid' because that name is usually associated with spoiled, snobby, and rude. I didn't have much time to think about the poor habits in my family because the elevator bell rang. I opened the door to see the catering crew. They opened the door and walked in.
"Well hello to you too!" i yelled as they rushed past.
I assumed they were already paid cause they didn't ask for money. I walked up the stairs past the window, admiring the view i had seen so many times before, then into my room. Bernadette, our house maid, was finishing ironing my suit and tie for tonight. She was a short stocky women who spoke with a Russian accent and addressed everyone as either Mr. or miss. She had practically raised me as my mother was busy with her business and my father a business man on wall street. "Good afternoon Mr. Bryce, how was school?" I had heard her say this every school day of my life, and she is still saying it.
"Alright" I answered.
"Well party cheer you up Mr. Bryce."
She finishedpiece suit and $200 cuff links. I tied my matte black tie around my neck and went down stairs to check on how the set up was going. The priceless pieces of art on the wall had been removed in exchange of broad pictures of me and my friends during the year. The million dollar champage glasses were exchanges for thousand dollar champagne glasses. The expensive drinks were hidden and replaced with the drinks we had bought today. Cater waiters walked around with appetizers and champage on black platters balancing on one hand awaiting guests. It would be another 30 minutes before guests were scheduled to be let in, but of course the elevator bell rang. Ava prounced in obviously proud she was able to convinve the door man to let her in early.
She looked around and gave me a slighly satisfied "Pretty good, pretty good."
"Only the best for you" I said under my breath.
"What was that?" She said accusingly
"I said, I love you" I replied.
"Of course you did. How amazing do I look?" She said changeing the subject.
"Like a princess" I said back.
"As always. Now where is everyone?" She said as the elevator bell rang and herds of teenagers came walking through. No more than an hour later the girls got into for exposing cloths, the guys had lines of blow on the coffee table, and people were sliding on their butts down the stair banister. Everyone was danceing and jumping up and down, couples were going upstairs with sexy looks in their eyes. Just then Ava pulled me aside and started kissing me against the wall. I kissed back with what little enthusiasm I had left.
"Whats wrong Bryce? This party is awesome." She asked obviously feeling my lack of enthusiasm.
"Nothing" I said.
"Then lets go to your room? Shall we?" She said pulling me towards the stairs. Mostly everyone would think I'm crazy for not wanting to have sex with Ava. She was the most popular girl in school. She was the blonde head cheerleader with an awesome tan body with big boobs and a nice ass that every guy would want to be with. So what was wrong with me? and what was i going to say? no? Just than, either a blessing or a curse came out of the blue. The elevator bell rang. Everyone was saying it had to be the new kid crashing the party. I looked at Ava and said "I should go deal with that" she gave me a whatever face and let go of my hand. I walked to the elevator entrance just as a tall man in a police uniform walked in. Everyone stood still in aw and others took to hiding in the other rooms.
I looked at him and spoke. "Sir I assure you their is no drugs or alcohol here so whoever said-"
He cut me off. "Shut up kid"
A couple more police officers came in and informed him "the garage is empty"
He then looked at me and said "Where is your father?"
