there are four clans that live in constant war. pinebranch, who is southclan's medicine cat and the nephew of their senile leader, is struggling to figure out what starclan is telling him. when a kittypet arrives after pinebranch's horrid visions and omens, he can only assume she needs to get out of the clans' land. while everyone does believe no kittypet belongs in the clans, they don't want to cast her out. so pinebranch tries to take things into his own paws while being sent on a journey for herbs.
