Chapter Two

Mitchell ended up staying for dinner. It was a nice time. I think Mum might fancy him actually. That would be cool, I like him. He is nice, funny and an awesome guy for an adult. Many of Mums "adult guy friends" are, quite honestly, dicks. They treat like I am fucking five. I am not! I am ten, thank you very much and then, I am quite mature. I get, "Oh hello there, who's a good girl?" and "Would you like me to read you a bedtime story?" Come on, please!

"Layla, come on, I have to get going. Out, out, out."

Mum is always yelling, but that is just her. She just has a naturally loud voice, so when she increases her volume, it turns into yelling. I don't mind though, I'm used to it.

"Coming Mum!"

30 minutes later and we are finally out the door. Took us a while, but we got there eventually. Mum is off to some work convention thing. I honestly tuned out when she started explaining it to me. Boring if you ask me.

"Okay, so I will be back by six, hopefully. I might end up staying at Jessica's, you remember her don't you? She came over for New Years, drank that bit too much?"

I remembered. She explained to me how she got her period, lost her virginity and much, much more. Trust me, no ten-year old wants to know all that. I am still trying to forget that night.

"Yeah, Mum. That's cool. I have a key and everything. I will be fine."

"Hello there. What are you ladies up to today?"

"Oh hey Mitchell. Mum's off to some work shindig. I'm off to the city. What about you?"

"Hello Mitchell."

Mum kind of smiled weirdly. I guess that's her come hither look. Great, now Mum is trying to flirt with Mitchell. He has to be at least 20 years younger than her. Okay maybe not that much, but still.

"Well, I was going to meander for a bit. Mind if I tag along with you?"

"Oh that'd be great! Super fun! Mum, is that okay?"

"Yeah, of course, sweetie. I have to go. Have fun!"

She walked down the street and around the corner. On her way to the train. We have a car, but its easier and cheaper to just use the public transport. Mitchell and I made our way to the buses, which just so happened to be the opposite direction to Mum. We walked in a comfortable silence, content in just thinking. Though, I was curious as to what he was thinking.

"Let's play 20 questions, you go first."

"20 questions?"

"Oh no, Mitchell. Please don't tell me you've never played 20 questions!" He looked at me blankly, and kind of guiltily. "Okay, well its real simple. We are allowed to ask each other 20 questions. They can be absolutely anything. And you have to answer honestly."

"Well how would you know if it was the truth or not?"

I had to think about that. Me being the trusting person just trusted that everyone would be truthful. What if they weren't? Oh no. That's horrible.

"Because, I trust you and trust you will tell the truth."

He looked at me for a second before replying.

"Fair enough."

And so we began and eventually we forgot about the game and just talked. It was like we had been friends for years and the same age. I loved hanging out with Mitchell. He was my first and only friend. Mum loved him to, but I think in a different way than me. More a, I want you, way. Disturbing.
