The RA

Liberty College--the third best college in the whole country--had accepted me. I reluctantly step out of the taxi and scan the area. I was here. I made it.

I couldn't believe it. All of my life I had dreamed of enrolling here and had always worked towards it. I was accepted thanks to my 4.0 high school GPA and perfect entry exam scores.

The tall buildings made me feel small and vulnerable. Suddenly, I wanted to step back into the yellow car and go home. "No," I whisper to myself, "Remember why you're here."

This year, I had goals. I wanted to have a few good friends, go to parties, as well as keep up my grades.

I came from a small town and I only really had one friend back home. She was an introverted nerd like me, so we got along fine. She went to college in California, however.

Someone clears his throat and I snap out of my thoughts and jump. A cute blonde boy who looked a few years older than I stood a few inches from my face.

"H-hi?" I stutter confused as to why he was so close. I just got out of the cab.

"Yes, hi. Uh, are you Anne?" He glances at a clipboard he was holding tight against his chest.

I nod, "Who are you?"

"Oh, forgive me." He chuckles, "My name's Dominick. The RA at the house you're staying at. Would you like me to help you carry some bags?"

"Yes, please." I smile at his kindness and lead him to the trunk, where the taxi driver has already unloaded most of my stuff.

Dominick picks up two of my suitcases. I toss my rucksack over my shoulder and pick up the last remaining bag. I was thankful for his help. I thought I would have to take four trips!

I smile at the driver and wave as I walk off. My parents had prepaid him at the airport.

I follow Dominick through the college grounds; we walk in silence. I took in all the scenery and watched all the other college students. Some were carrying books and some weren't. Some hustled along the sidewalks and some took their time.

"This is it." Dominick announces and looks over his shoulder at me.

My jaw drops, "Holy..." Dominick smirks at me.

The house was huge, bigger than a plantation house, even. I couldn't believe that my scholarship not only covered my whole education, but also bought me this big house to stay in. Working hard and getting good grades was really paying off.

"It's so-" I begin to speak but a soaking wet girl wearing a bikini pushes past me, knocking me onto my bum on the sidewalk.

"Hey!" I call after her. Surprised by my outburst, I immediately after feel my face get warm.

Dominick reaches his right hand out for me and I gladly take it. As I stand back up, I rearrange my big rectangle lens glasses that my mom says compliment my round face and wavy bangs.

"Thanks," I whisper to him and he nods.

"Well, that's Isabella for you." He sighs, "She is such a handful."

"I-Is everyone in the house like this?"

"Oh, not at all!" He hesitates, "Well, everyone has their... setbacks, but they're not all like Isabella, I promise. If they were, I would have quit this job months ago!"

I giggle and he shoots me a reassuring smile.

"I want to make sure everyone has a good living experience so if something is bothering you come talk to me."

I nod, "Thank you, again."

I'm glad to have already made a friend; Dominick seemed very kind.

Finally, I, with some suitcase in tow, enter the house I would be calling home for the next year or so. The first floor is huge. I can immediately see an over-sized couch facing a nice big screen TV. There's also a nook with a big table, and an area with several bookshelves surrounding a bunch of comfortable looking chairs.
