"The last thing The Union needs is an uprising!" an angry voice shouts from the crowd of councilors.
My eyes snap open revealing the drab conference hall. Anger swirls in the pit of my stomach as I scan the circular room from my perch in the Chancellor's throne.
"Who said anything about an uprising?" I growl, speaking for the first time.
"That's the entire reason we called the emergency council meeting," a newer politician squeaks at me.
"What?!" I exclaim.
A hefty councilor with a shiny, bald head and a curly white mustache pushes himself up from his seat. I think his name is Marcs, but I never bothered to learn it.
"Yes," Marcs drawls nasally, "A young rebel that goes by the name 'Anarchy' has been terrorizing the capitol city. Starting riots, defacing government monuments, attempting a break-in at the palace..."
I furrow my eyebrows at him. "You mean all of those paintings everywhere?" I grin with recognition. "Those are cool, I like them."
He scrunches his face in disgust. "They are depictions of you and your father's deaths," he spits out.
I wave Marcs away. "Just a little creative defiance, art-gangs playing pranks. I doubt that this is all the same person."
He narrows his eyebrows and slides back into his seat.
Another councilor (this one I know) stands up. Art Ellot walks up to my chair with narrowed eyes. His bony finger jabs at the air in front of my face while he talks. "Listen, boy. We have a major threat here. This 'Anarchy' person is tearing apart the fabric of The Union. Somehow, he knows all of our secrets and is using them to anger the population and start a revolution!"
I clench my teeth and lower my face to his. "No. You listen to me. We have no danger here. No one knows anything. Especially not the trouble the government is really in. I know my people. There isn't, and won't be, a revolution. Just because we are having some difficulties does not mean the citizens are angry."
Art closes his eyes and stomps away with an angry flourish.
Just when a smug expression settles on my face another nameless councilor rises and approaches the throne.
"You reckless, little copy of your idiotic father," he booms. "Just because your daddy gave you this job, ruling his country, does not mean that you know how to do it right. I suggest that you listen to us, and not let this country go more downhill than it already has since you started ruling. You are not in the citizens' favor right now, and a rebellion surely won't help."
An eruption of voices explodes in the hall. A sick, angry feeling swirls around my stomach like lava as I rise and stride down the center aisle. I hear the men's voices saying: "It's his fault a rebellion will start; he is incapable of ruling a country." "If only he would let us help him fix everything he did before an uprising." "I'm not surprised the citizens are angry, this country went from bad to worse when he came in."
I slam open the doors and burst into a sprint down the long, ornate hallway. Angry tears well in my eyes as I break through the front door. Security immediately surrounds me and ushers me to my car with stiff backs and straight faces.
I slide in the back and press my face against the window. Those stupid men, I think, they have no idea what they are talking about. My father is a great man and knew exactly what he was doing when he appointed me Chancellor.
I huff a heavy breath. Back when I was seventeen, my father grew tired of ruling The Union, so he passed the job onto me. He owns the country, but sits back and watches me do all the work. The Council works under me, but most of them think that, because of my age and inexperience, I am unable to rule the country, so they try and work above me. They treat me like a child.
