Anyways (I'm bad at describing my art and what inspires me ughhh I feel so awkward doing it okay here we go)

To me, blood is like the liquid soul of our body. Maybe even the soul's currency. We try to keep it in, it leaks from us when we hurt, we give some to others out of goodwill to help their own soul grow stronger— blood has always been very important in all life forms, and I have associated it with the soul.

Everybody has been hurt at some point. Mentally, physically— we've all suffered a great deal of pain. We all have our wounds and scars, although some are not visible from the outside. In my art, I show the inner pain of people from the outside– pain that has already been overcome, but still resounds with every beat of your heart.

I don't like to depict blood in my paintings as the color red very often for two reasons. First of all, it's easily recognizable as blood. When you see something purple leaking out of her face, you wonder "what is that?" And open your mind to the idea that perhaps her very soul is leaking from her body.

Second, red is a color often used as a warning signal, something that reads "DANGER" or "STOP". While feeling a sense of panic when you're bleeding is natural and healthy (especially in dire circumstances), I want the wounds in my painting to reflect a sort of peace– the peace of knowing one has overcome a challenge in one's life and that it has made them stronger.

No matter who you are or what you do, we've all been hurt at some point. I'm showing you that it's okay to wear the scars on your wrist.
