Head, shoulders, knees, and toes

Eyes, ears, mouth, and nose

Heads that once had flowing hair

Now were shaved or tied back tight

Shoulders that once were covered with clothing of their choice

Now covered with assigned uniforms

Toes that once were covered with shoes of sorts

Now wearing designated combat boots

Eyes that laid on screens and their surroundings

Now filled with the visions of the chaotic, dangerous world

Ears that once heard melodious singing

Now heard the cries, screams, and shots of battle

Mouths that once curled into innocent smiles

Now snarled in pain, sadness, and tension

Noses that smelled fresh, crisp air

Now crinkled at the air thick of gunpowder, tension, and death

Liberty comes with a price

But, their heads were held up high

Shoulders bold and strong

Toes that wiggle with anticipation of defending

Eyes viewing a better, brighter future

Ears hearing freedom ring with every gunshot

Mouths uttering prayers

Noses deeply inhaling victory

These body parts don't belong to just anyone

But they're a part of the bravest beings on Earth

With my hand, I salute to all of you veterans

I thank you
