What did I want to talk to Max about? Oh yes I remember. I asked him if he thought happy endings were a load of crap then what did he want. What did he really want? His reply shocked me. He started to sob so I went over to give him a hug. Max leant his head on my shoulder and started to tell me his answer.
"I want to be with the girl I love for the rest of my life. She may not notice me now but she has to eventually, she has to! I'm afraid of never getting my chance with her or losing her to someone else. I don't believe she is "the one" because I don't believe in there being just one person for you. I do believe there will be someone who will care and love you forever.
I've seen my mum have one "the one" too many. All they did was take their anger out on me whenever I stood up for her. Why couldn't she see that? All she does is scream at me because I'm the reason they walk out on her. Most of her relationships don't even last for a month. I just want her to see that I'm trying to protect her from these scumbags. She deserves better. She truly does, I know it.
I'm sick of hurting myself. I don't like the scars they leave. I wish she wouldn't take out the frustration with those scumbags on me as well. I know she doesn't mean to hurt me but I just wish she'd stop. I'm scared one day she might go too far. I wish she'd just go find a decent man who can take care of us, both financially and emotionally. It's just not fair. Life isn't fair"
I didn't know how to respond. All I could so was rub his back and whisper over and over again- "It'll be alright." I know it would be alright, maybe not today or in two years, but eventually it would be alright.
At least I know how his scars happened. Everyone talked about how he was in some gang and they fought all the time but I couldn't believe that a soul as pure as Max could ever hurt someone.
In all my six years of knowing Max Ryan, obviously not very well, I never once thought that the obnoxious, cocky yet hot student, who always sat in the back row of all of my classes, had lived a life like that. I always imagined a massive Victorian house with a butler and maids. He had that "rich kid" aura around him and he sure acted like it.
After about five minute of silence there was suddenly a loud knock at the door. I jumped a bit, did Max notice? He started laughing so I took that as a yes.
"Yo Maxie. Yo, you guys have been in there for almost 10 minutes. Come out already yo, you dirty lovebirds" a deep voice yelled.
That was probably Liam. He's known for his overuse of the word "yo." Liam was also known for the big brown eyes he possessed and his short, fluffy hazelnut coloured hair. Liam also had an ability to charm any lady. Basically he was a massive player. All the girls knew but yet they continued to go for him. He was our version of John Tucker.
Max broke the silence, "I guess...we should head out before they say anymore."
He stopped and looked down at me seriously.
"Please, promise me you won't tell anyone."
I nodded furiously, "you have my word."
As we walked into the room, all the guys turned to stare as we walked in then as expected, the wolf whistles.
"Shut up! Katty's pregnant alright?! So give it a rest." Max announced.
I looked around the room at everyone's stunned faces. Josh's mouth had dropped and I swear it was going to be stuck like that. Colour was draining out of Liam's face. harry started to talk, actually more like he stuttered.
"B-b-buh, w-wah wh-wh-when-"
"Max is kidding guys! I'm not pregnant. Geez, and what was that Max? Katty?!" I exclaimed.
We re-assumed our positions getting ready to resume truth or dare. It was Max's turn to spin. After it spun about ten times it pointed to me. F*ck.
"Katty," he purred, "truth or dare?"
Sh*t. What should I choose? I started to sweat at the thought of what he could ask me if I said truth but then again, I had to expect the worst if it was a dare as well. After a moment of tug of war in my head I had my answer.
"Dare."
