We pulled up to the castle once more but it no longer seemed beautiful. It just looked daunting and pristine. It looked perfect. Too perfect that I felt that I couldn't possibly live up to their nonexistent standards.
Once the carriage had stopped, I was greeted by an entourage. A man in a fine suit offered his hand up to me and I gladly took it.
"My lady," him along with everyone else bowed. "Welcome to the royal palace."
I squirmed uncomfortably. "Oh, um, thank you. Please don't call me that though. I'm not really much of one. Isabela or Izzie is fine." I stifled a laugh and saw many of them holding in a laugh as well. A man took my bag and brought it inside to, I assume, my room.
"Very well then Isabela" the man said, smiling "let me escort you to where the rest of the ladies are."
"They're already here?" I was honestly surprised. I thought I was the first to arrive seeing as I left rather early into the afternoon. By now the sun has already set.
"Yes, my la- Isabela. In fact you were the last to arrive."
"Oh. Well then I guess we shouldn't postpone this any longer. Bring me to them I guess."
------
All of them were so different. Almost all were wearing extravagant gowns while only a few were wearing peasant clothes like me. When I entered they all turned towards me and I felt intimidated. Once they realized I was just another girl, they returned to their conversations.
I looked around and decided to go to a girl who looked lonely in the corner. She was beautiful, rich too by the looks of it. She had gorgeous, wavy locks that seemed like every girl's dream. Her dress looked silky and seemed to be layers and layers piled on top of one another. My point is she looked like a princess. I wondered why was she all alone.
"Hi. I'm Isabela. Do you mind if I sit with you?" She sent me a charming smile that actually seemed genuine.
"No! Come, sit!" I gratefully sat on the chair next to her and noticed people staring. Then again I was just some commoner compared to the girl beside me.
"Is it just me or are they staring?" I mused to the girl beside me.
"They're probably wondering why you chose to make friends with me." She thought out loud "Why did you come to me anyway?"
I shrugged. "You looked kind of lonely, no offense. Also you're one of the few who don't look snobby." We both laughed and the other girls looked at us once more.
"Well I'm glad you came to me. I have a feeling we'll get along well." She shook my hand. "I'm Cassie by the way."
Cassie and I chatted for a while longer before a posh man came in.
"Supper is ready! Follow me so that you may meet the royal family for dinner."
I suddenly felt nauseous. "Hey. I'm not feeling too well. If anyone asks I'll be in my room."
Cassie looked at me worriedly. "Okay. At least let me help you find someone to take you to your room."
I nodded gratefully and Cassie passed me off to one of the servants. Together the servant and I walked towards the room given to me.
Upon entering the beautiful room, my eyes zeroed in on the bed and I rushed to it immediately. I lied there and stretched my arms.
"If only the bed at my own home was this comfy." I mumbled
I heard the servant laugh behind me. "Well, my lady, there is a phone on your bedside if you need anything. You're dinner will be brought up to you in a while."
I thanked him and enveloped myself in the sheets of the bed. Soon my eyes were closing and I was being brought to dreamland.
------
I woke up absolutely delighted to see a plate with food, particularly a steak. My mouth watered at the sight and I more or less tripped on myself rushing to it. I ate in silence and noticed how beautiful my room was. There was a beautiful fur carpet and it had a cozy feeling to it. I saw an easel in the corner. I definitely will have to paint sometime later.
I heard a knock come from outside. A head poked through. A quite gorgeous one too. His hair seemed to be a light brown, but I couldn't determine his eye color in the dark.
The servant stepped inside my room and saw me eating. "Sorry, my lady. I just wanted to see if you were feeling well."
I held up a hand still trying to swallow the piece of steak in my mouth. "Yes. The sleep definitely helped." I laughed. "Also the amazing food."
He stared at me while I returned to eating the amazing plate of steak in front of me. I looked up and continued staring at me. "I'm sorry, do you need something?"
He snapped out of his trance looking confused. "Why didn't you eat your salad? Most of the ladies asked to replace their steaks with another salad."
I howled in laughter. A salad over steak? Nah. "Why would I? I mean you get that right? You don't just give up steak! If I wanted a salad I would have gone to my family's garden! I mean, really! A salad over steak! They're missing out." I paused, realizing that the servant probably never had a meal like this.
" Actually, would you like some?" I offered. I held out my fork which had a small piece on it.
The servant looked shocked. He was probably expecting me to be like the prissy stuck up girls outside - with the exception of Crissie of course.
"Oh, no thank you. I had my dinner already and I'm sure you're quite hungry."
Well, I suppose it was odd of me to offer a servant food. Then again my family was almost servants ourselves.
"Come on. It's fine really. I've seen worse days when it comes to food. This steak would probably be my family's entire supper on a bad day. I assume you're quite hungry yourself."
"Lady Isa-"
"Isabela is fine. I don't care much for the whole 'lady' thing." I interrupted. It was honestly amusing how adamant everyone treated me like one. I'm sure Jenny could for one agree that I'm the furthest thing from a lady.
"Isabela," he corrected "who exactly do you think I am?"
I shrugged. "A human? We all are humans, so I'd say we all deserve a decent meal every now and then."
The servant gaped at me. He looked surprised at my response but I couldn't understand why. I held the fork out once more but seeing as he wouldn't be taking it anytime soon, I ate it. "Well, Isabela, I'll be taking my leave now. I hope you have a good night."
I smiled at him. "You too. I look forward seeing you again soon."
