It all started when I turned 15...

I woke up to the sound of cars rushing past my house, the usual commotion of my city. But I had grown used to the hustle and bustle, living in one place for 7 years will do that to you.

It took a while before I begrudgingly crawled out of the comfort of my bed. I am most definitely not a morning person, but school would always take priority over my precious sleep.

Unbeknownst to me, I had forgotten that today wasn't a normal day. It was December 7th, it was my birthday!

I go through my morning routine as usual, getting dressed and eating a bagel with cream cheese before brushing my teeth and heading out the door. My house was within biking distance from my high school, I was a freshman. I hopped onto my bike, adjusting my heavy backpack, and started my 10 minute ride to school.

Along the way I sped past the neighboring complexes of suburban and urban homes, passing my old elementary and where people I used to know lived. My little journey would take me downhill until I got to a small mall, it's one of the most gone to places in my town, if you stop by, it's almost certain you'll see someone you know. Once at the mall it's mostly flatground as you turn right towards the school area and town square. In that town square was where me and my buddies like to hang out afterschool, there was a manga/cat/pc café that was huge, but surprisingly not many people knew about it. My thoughts concluded that no one really knew about it because all the popular and shady kids go to the mall, downtown for the shady kids and uptown for the popular, your typical northside Southside division within the town. Moving on from that drama, me and my friends' hangout was a nerd paradise, it was practically my second home since we went there so often. As I pass by those areas we finally get to the high school and two middle schools in town.

I am in my first year of high school, so even though I've been at school for 4 months now, I'm still nervous when I arrive. It is probably just a me thing but when you arrive on a bike while everyone else goes by car, bus, or on foot, people are already staring all curious, and when you know alot of people but are still a bit of a drifter from the main groups, no one immediately comes up to you or offers you a spot to chill with them. Unless, of course, you got a small nerdy group of your own.

The group of people I'm in is small, there's only 7 of us, 4 of us came from one middle school and the other 3 were from the other middle school. We're all not apart of one side of the town division (we are almost positive it's just us who aren't on a side) and we met at the cafe I was talking about earlier. That s enough background though!

Going back to how I was arriving at school, I tried to ignore the stares as I locked up my bike and took a nervous look around to see if any of my friends were here yet, none of them were. I walk over to this big tree near the front corner of the high school, it's our usual meet up place in the mornings. The perfect place to sit on or under the tree and chat, go on our phones, or read a book.

Before I get comfortable by the tree, Sami, a person I know from middle school, stops by to say hi and to tell me about an amusement park the town is building. He knows practically everything about what is going on in town, even though he is a Northsider, he knows about the Southside's where abouts as well. So of course he asks me about the drama between the two sides on who's hangout it will be. Because I'm a neutral, but I know a lot of people, I get asked for advice often, or I'm just there to listen to a person's rant. After Sami is done talking a mile a minute and I was able to put in a few suggestions, he goes back to his group. His random story about the park was a bit out of the ordinary, he was acting so suspicious and kept looking at my phone, like I'd actually get a message for once, but I brushed it aside as him being weird.

After a few awkward minutes of glancing at my phone and looking around for my friends, I nearly jump out of my spot when somebody taps me on the shoulder. It's Yuvia, one of my 6 Best friends, she used to be a Southsider, but was kicked out, she was alone, until she met our group, she is one of the 3 people from. St. Alana Middle school. "Come with me!" she says after stealing my phone. "What's up? Just tell me if you gotta say something, I'm really comfy where I am." I state, I'm already tired from my ride to school and dealing with people takes alot out of me. "JUST FOLLOW ME! Lazy bum." She retorts, sounding irritated but grinning ear to ear. I give in and follow her around to the back of the school.

As I turn around the corner to the back of the cafeteria I'm met with "SUPRISE!!!" Coming from a bunch of my Southsider friends and my 3 besties, Mason , Liam , and of course Yuvia . I'm very shocked at what this is for up until Liam screams at me "HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!", he runs up to hug me while the other two pat me on the head before giving me a stack of birthday cards and a few wrapped presents. I was so happy, but then I wondered where my three friends from my old middle school had gone, and why were they split up? Although I was happy I felt that some things were missing, what could they be? It turns out that the day of my 15th birthday would end up leaving me with alot more questions than answers.
