A silver bird is our life
Gleaming when we are born
Shiny, new, perfect
But then we start living...
The wings break
Just like our hearts
The feathers' luster dulls
Just like our intuition
The eyes lose their glint
Just like our lives
Slowly the bird sinks
Just like us
Its wings weaken
Just like our knees
It falls to the ground
Just like us
Uttering a final cry
...Just like us
...A feeble little cry
...Just like us
...Saying, "Have mercy, please."
...Saying, "Have mercy, please."
It lays it's head on the ground
We lay our head on the ground
It's tiny heart racing
Our heart pounding out of our chest
..."Have mercy, please."
..."Have mercy, please."
Then someone will come along
Either with pain
Or maybe with healing
Whether they crush us
Whether they hold us close
The broken, dull little bird will faintly twitter
..."Have mercy, please."
Our broken, bleeding self will whisper
..."Have mercy, please."
...Mercy
...Please
Have mercy...please...
