Charlotte James wasn't much of a people person before the apocalypse and wasn't much of one after it either. It's not like she didn't try to get along with her fellow survivors--knowing that walkers tearing into flesh can be quite the motivation to be social--but it's ended up bad every time she's tried it. Charlie figured this out not long after the world ended and decided to abide by a rule that's kept her alive for this long, "Only look after yourself."
It's not like she has some traumatic zombie experience where her family was killed in the process, no. Instead, her father died due to cancer, and her mother and sister died in a car crash--all before the thought of dead people walking through Georgia was even a thought.
Now, Charlie's managed to get herself into the situation of Rick Grimes and his gang not wanting to leave her alone, and for the first time, the woman's smart mouth can't get her out of it. If that wasn't enough, Rick won't stop until he fixes the thing that broke Charlie's moral compass.

This can really take place in any season actually. However, I probably recommend towards the second season or third, but you can totally do you. I figured this was a nice plot because Charlie just doesn't care as much as other people, which makes her the perfect person to survive the end of the world. Not only that, but she's got a smart mouth and will usually say anything to get herself out of a situation as clean as possible. Although, she does have a weakness of being curious as all hell.
