Chapter 2

"Mom?" Luke calls out as he and Michael walk down the basement stairs. Michael walks a few steps behind Luke, scared of what he might see. He's watched a lot of horror movies and he thinks there are lots of scary things down there.

"Why on Earth would you watch movies in the basement? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?" Michael's voice comes out small and frightened, earning a small laugh from Luke.

They finally reach the basement and there's no sign of anyone. Luke calls out his mother once more and earns no response. He turns to Michael, "Lets go back up then."

Michael nods and quickly walks up the stairs again. He couldn't wait to get away from "the creepy basement".

"Where are they?" Michael asks after they reach the kitchen. "If they're not in the basement, kitchen, or living room, where could they be?"

"Maybe they're in their rooms?" Luke says. After setting the bowls and movie down on the counter, they walk upstairs. This time, Michael walks ahead of Luke so if he falls, Luke will be there to catch him. Luke wouldn't be able to do that of he was in front of him.

Michael points to a closed bedroom door and when Luke nods, he knocks. "Hello?" he calls out.

"I'll be out in a minute!" Jack says. He hurriedly puts on his pajamas, just like he does on every movie night.

"What're you doing in there? Where's mom and Ben?" Luke knocks on the bedroom door once more.

"Putting on our pajamas," Jack stumbles out of his room, tripping on his own feet. He laughs embarrassingly when he notices Michael there with his brother. "Hey there, Michael..."

"Hey," he responds cooly. Pointing out his mistake wouldn't be very nice and he doesn't want to be kicked o
ut of the house.

As if on cue, Ben and his mother come out from their rooms, dressed in their pajamas. Ben eyes them weirdly. "What's going on?"

"We were looking for you," Luke says.

"Have you picked out some movies?" Luke's mom asks Michael.

"Well, movie. I only picked one.." He scratches the back of his head in an awkward way and looks behind him, trying not to look embarrassed.

"That's fine," their mother smiles. "We can get another after the one you picked finished. What movie did you pick exactly?"

"This one called.. 'Old Dogs'." Michael responds.

"Have you set up the player, mom?" Luke asks while looking at Michael. He doesn't want him to feel weird or awkward while he stays so his mom will be happy.

"Yes. Go downstairs and pop the movie in."

"Alright." Luke turns to walk downstairs but glances at Michael before fully leaving. I'm surprised he didn't follow me, Luke thinks.

Fucking ass didn't tell me to follow, Michael begins to metally curse at Luke. He looks at Ben and then back at his mom several times, expecting one of them to speak. He lets out a forced awkward laugh and instantly regrets it. Sometimes it's just better to stay quiet.

"Why don't you go change into more comfortable clothing." Ben tells Michael.

All he does is nod and goes into Lukes and his shared room. He locks the door and casually sits on Luke's bed. Michael wonders how he plans on showing up downstairs since he didn't bring comfortable clothes.
