Shattered Innocence
A small boy sheds yet another tear,
not knowing how much more he can take,
as he lays in his bed that night he wonders,
how much pain he will endure when the new dawn breaks.
The many bruises that he carries
go far deeper than we can see,
no matter how hard he tries
he can never be what they want him to be.
Nothing ever seems good enough
to stop the mighty swing of the fist,
He closes his eyes and counts to ten,
Waiting for the true pain to really begin.
He does't dare speak a word,
Knowing his pleas will fall on deaf ears,
He no longer prays to any God
and struggles to hide all his worst fears.
He's long lost his faith in any hope at all,
his lone focus now is to survive,
his tiny soul long broken down
far past any prospect to honestly revive.
Behind the hidden veil
of his small blue-grey eyes,
there lies a quiet type of shattered innocence
and a mere echo of what once had been his heart wrenching cries.
