I pulled up to this abandoned building in East New York that I been going to since I had a car. About a year now. I checked the back door and seen it was closed like I always want it. I go upstairs seeing Cherry sleep. I bend down waking her up, she jumped up and licked my face. Cherry is only four months, she's this little Pitt mixed with something else. She looks just like a Pitt but she's small. I don't think she'll grow up to my knee. I basically take care of her when I come to Brooklyn.
I found this place when I went wandering around during an argument between my parents. Felt like a kid out a movie driving around where I wasn't suppose to be, like the arguing affected me like that. Shit it was normal and I know that's bad for some people but I've grown not to care for it. Every argument I ended up here.
It was peaceful here. I loved it and Cherry was so friendly. Her ear was was cut, found her that way when she was a baby. I looked at the bowl of food realizing it looked full. I haven't been here in 2 days , and I usually pack for that long. But how is it full? I sat down on the ground that I kept clean right next to Cherry's bed. As soon as she sat on my lap I felt funny like I wasn't alone. I got up slow and turned to the door seeing a boy looking at me crazy.
"Who are you and why you here?" I asked slowly reaching for my knife.
"Woahhh shawty, ain't mean to scare you but I just saw you coming in here and wanted to know if you was straight," he explains. "I mean you good? Like you in here for what?"
"That's not your business," I say while he looks at Cherry. She hides behind my leg whimpering.
"Aww, that's cute. But why you don't take the thing home?" He asks. "Oh and my fault for being rude. My name is Levi."
"I don't know you, I'm about to leave," I slowly say and clench my knife. I pick up Cherry with one arm and he looks at me weird.
"Yo, I swear I really just came to see if you good," he says with his hands up. He has tattoos all up his arms and one he's slightly built but chunky. Light skinned like Chris Brown which shockingly attracted me. I don't like light skins. Fuck that I don't like guys. I ain't gay but you know I'm doing my own thing not interested in anybody.
"You better leave my dog alone. Lucky I can't take her home," I say.
"How bout I take her home? She don't look too good over here," he said reaching for her and she slowly walked over to him. "See she like me. I'm not so bad."
"Who said you were bad at all or you just already guilty?" I eyed him down.
"Depends on what you consider as bad shawty," he sighs. "Still never said your name."
I felt funny inside with his eyes on me looking deep. I was caught but I had to say something instead of just stare. Say something Tresey! "I just wanna know if my dog is gonna be safe and if her life ain't in danger or she's not in a dangerous environment," I say taking Cherry from him.
"Well I live with my little sister and my moms," he says. "My moms is an animal lover. So is my sister."
I was surprisingly buying all of this but I didn't want to trust him. I slowly look up at him. "Nah she good. I got her."
"You know you can't do that," he says. "Look at least bring her to my older sister house. She's gonna freeze out here soon. I'll let you follow me in your car."
"How you know-"
"Nobody parks their car over on that block. You could tell you not from over here," he chuckles as I follow him out. I'm still clutching my knife in my pocket a little paranoid like my daddy. But my father always said don't trust no one. "Where you from?"
"Brooklyn," I slowly say.
"Ooh, so why you moving scary like you wanted?" He asks as I follow him back out to his car.
"Yooo! She's bad. I told y'all she was cute!" One of his homies yelled. It was 2 of them looking dumb as fuck with those emoji outfits on. I swear they ugly as fuck. They had some nice sneakers though but shit was pitiful.
One of them started walking towards me looking at me like I was meat. "Back up nigga and don't touch me."
"Ahh shawty feisty too. I like that," he licked his lips lending out his hand to touch my shoulder. I elbowed him in the face and put my knife to his neck.
"I said not to touch me."
"Yoo. Where she come from?" His other homeboy cooed. While homie with the knife at his neck held his face and didn't move.
"Aight chill chill, he cool people just got outta hand," Levi spoke up trying not to laugh.
I looked and let my knife down slowly. "You a crazy ass bitch."
"Call me out my name and I got mace for that ass," I say boldly.
"Where the fuck you going nigga?" The one who tried to touch me asked.
"To take her dog to my crib," he says.
"Captain save a hoe Levi," the other one spoke.
"Suck my dick," I spat.
"Please get shawty cuz I feel my hand yearning to slap her," he shook his head. I was about to speak but Levi cuts me off.
"Yo just shut up Cane. And next time keep ya hands to yourself Bee," Levi says.
I follow him walking to my car still with cherry in my arms. We left his homies behind. I watched his walk closely. Looked like he was crippled almost. "You really gotta put on the extra thug limp?" I laugh to myself.
"Nope. I got a metal rod in my leg. Can't walk straight without pain shooting through my leg," he says making me feel bad.
"My bad," I put my head to the side not making eye contact.
"It's okay. Only thing you need to feel sorry about is not telling me your name." I swallow and look at his car taking a mental note of his lisence plate. Just in case. "You look nervous. I ain't tryna hurt you."
"My name is Princess. Nobody nervous I just want my dog to be okay and I have to go somewhere so I can't stick around."
"Okay lemme get ya number Princess and I'll call you so you could have me saved," he pulls out an iphone.
I hesitate but read my number and then feel my phone buzzing. "Okay Levi," I say saving his number and then pull cherry to my face. "I'll see you later baby," I say to Cherry and she licks my cheek. I smiled and slowly handed her over to Levi.
