Episode 2: The Date

Previously, on Happy Birthday...

"I still have to give you one more gift, Brooklyn." Liam says.

"Tickets to Over Atlantic?! Liam! Thank you!" She hugs him.

"I was hoping that maybe I could take you, but it's up to you."

"I would love it if you came with me to the concert, Liam. I can't thank you enough for the tickets and it would only be right if I brought you with me."

"Awesome. I'll arrange transportation and everything." She smiled softly.

Niall's POV

Today is the day Brooklyn breaks my heart without knowing it. She accepted Liam's date while I've been crushing on her for some time now. I honestly tried to get over her, but every time she smiles, I get weak in the knees. This girl doesn't even know what she does to me. She's an absolute angel to everyone she meets. I'm afraid someone is going to hurt her one day because of it. F%ck it; I love her. If I would have made it to her in time, she might be going out with me instead. Though maybe she deserves better than me anyways. She's perfect.

"I think you put too much gel in your hair, mate." Louis gives Liam an odd look. Liam takes another look in the mirror.

"I'm just really nervous. I mean, I really like her. What if I mess the date up? What if she has a terrible time? What if she never wants to go out again because I blew it? What if- "

"What if you waste all this time worrying unnecessarily on the outcome of your date that you run out of time to get ready?" Zayn says as he raises his eyebrow at Liam's foolishness.

"Good point, Zayn." Harry pats his back encouragingly.

"You'll do fine, mate. Just be your teddy bear self, and she'll fall for you."

"Thanks, lads." I let out a huff of breath. This is seriously so f%cked up. I liked Brooklyn first.

Louis' POV

I hate seeing Niall look so upset. I can't believe Brooklyn said yes to the date. I mean, of course she did. She's only the nicest girl we've met ever. Sorry, Tara, but it's true. Poor Niall. I know what it's like to like someone who doesn't like them back. Stupid Tara and her perfect face. A part of me hopes that this date doesn't work, and Niall gets a chance with Brooky. It just pains me to see Niall like this, while Liam gets the girl.

"Maybe just a little more gel." I add a bit more to his already gel-drenched hair. That ought to spoil the date a bit. But now I feel guilty all of a sudden. Niall's holding back a laugh. He must have noticed what I did.

"I thought you said it was already too much?" I shrugged.

"Ah, what do I really know, eh? I'm not the best at perfect date advice." Zayn glares at me. If Zayn knew why I did what I did; he'd understand.

"Unfortunately, you don't have enough time to wash out the gel, so you'll have to work with what you've got. You'll do great, Li. Who wouldn't want to be going on a date with you." He casually looked down at the ground after saying that. What is Zayn hiding?

"Well, you better get going, and pick up Brooklyn before she changes her mind." Harry chuckles, and I pray that she does.

"Ugh! I asked for a black limo! Not a white one. This date is already doomed." He sighs, as he leaves the house. Perfect. Terrible date, and I didn't even do anything yet.

Zayn's POV

That was a close one. I hope Liam didn't realize why I said what I said. Last thing I he needs right now is me ruining his chances with Brooklyn. I look in the mirror and at the lads wondering if they can actually see the jealousy that I'm covered in. Brooke is a lucky girl to be on a date with Liam. I'd switch places with her in a heart beat. I don't know why he's so focused on making the date work out. Why can't he do things like that for me? Oh, right, it's because I don't deserve him. I don't deserve anyone.
