Dearest me, I hope you're well, At National Geographic, your dreams are fulfilled. "Planet or Plastic?" the movement we began, To save our world, to take a stand. Promotion awaits you if I recall, That was the happiest day of all.
But now I write from my deathbed, Or rather, the dirt where I've been left for dead. Abandoned in my old age, with no water to spare, For a mother destined to perish, why should they care? For water, 32 years from now, will be a treasure, More valuable than gold beyond measure.
Plastic bags, bottles, the waste we ignored, The oceans we choked, the earth we abhorred, The movement we began, but did we do enough?To rid the world of plastic, to call its bluff?Now I lie beside the empty shore, Joining others left to die, ignored, As water swirls, so does the debris, Plastic, dead animals, as far as the eye can see.
Abandoned for years, I can't take it, My life will end today, as I submit. All my past attempts to reach you were in vain, But let me paint you a picture of our world's pain.
Chaos reigns, cities are seized for water, World War III, we thought it'd be the population slaughter,But wars rage on, for the past 20 years, Rules installed to control the population- fears.
Only the richest families permitted one child, I was blessed with two daughters, and my heart beguiled. My older one was spared, but the younger, confined, Hidden in a basement, the open sky she pined.
She escaped, but was murdered two days after, Her killer unknown, her life lost to laughter. People aged 50 and over abandoned to die, Left beside the empty shore, beneath the smoke-filled sky.
Please, I implore, don't suffer as I, Don't let your dreams turn to dust, don't let them die. Change the past to change your future, be at peace, Alone you can do something, together we can history crease.
For marine life, you have love, right? But there's none left here, out of sight, Plastic choking the oceans, suffocating our world, The future horrors, you cannot imagine, unfurled. 2018 me, take care, don't let this happen, just remember.
