The next day was one of those amazingly warm days on which the captain announced they were close to the Bermuda Triangle. In fact, they were the closest they would get during their journey.
Amber and Jade were thrilled, sensing the mystery's captivating aura drawing them in. They both loved inexplicable, supernatural things and were both happy and sad that they wouldn't actually enter the Bermuda Triangle. Happy because they felt safer not entering it because of the many strange things that had happened there. They were also sad because they were eager to solve the mystery that no one could solve before, but they wouldn't get the chance.
"What do you think is really going on in the Bermuda Triangle?" Amber asked after hearing the captain's announcement. "I bet it's the aliens using their advanced technology to interfere with our inferior technology."
"I'm sure that if aliens exist, they have better things to do than mess with the ships sailing one particular part of the sea," Jade stated with a weary sigh, her brow furrowed in concentration.
"Maybe," Amber allowed with a shrug. "What do you think is going on there then?"
"I believe there is a disturbance in the magnetic fields in that area, making it impossible for ships to navigate, forcing the crew to abandon ship, and the volatile sea ends up pulling them to the bottom," Jade said firmly.
"I guess that's possible, but surely at least one person would survive to tell the tale, don't you think?" Amber said.
Jade just shrugged her shoulders, not having any valid arguments to refute Amber's logic.
"Hmm, since you make a good point about it not being aliens, and I'm pretty sure it's not the magnetic fields, could it be Atlantis?" Amber asked, tapping her chin in thought.
"Atlantis?" Jade said, tilting her head at the strange idea, trying to understand how the disappearances could have something to do with Atlantis.
"Yes, there are some theories that claim that the energy crystals that were used to fuel the city are now causing issues with ships' navigation systems," Amber said, her skin flushed and her breathing getting faster and faster.
"I don't think so," Jade said, shaking her head at all the wild theories Amber knew. "I am more likely to believe the theory about a comet that fell a long time ago, and its alien properties are disturbing the navigation equipment."
They were so absorbed in their debate about the mystery of it all that they didn't even notice the change in the weather. Only when the first large raindrops fell on their skin did they stop talking and look up at the sky.
The change was so drastic that they couldn't grasp it at first. The perfectly blue sky suddenly became gloomy with angry clouds towering over them. They were taken aback by the swift change in the weather, which went from placid to something ferocious in moments. The black and gray clouds were so close to the sea that it seemed as if they might fall into the sea at any minute. The sea thrashed about with a violent energy as the waves shook the ship, gently at first, but then they got stronger.
That was when one crew member hurriedly told them they had to go to their cabins since the deck wasn't a safe place to be when the waves were that high.
As Amber and Jade hurried back to their cabins, they could hear the howling wind and the crew members shouting and preparing for the storm. Seeing them scramble around in a hurry didn't instill confidence in the two women, but knowing there wasn't much they could do about it, they simply continued running to their rooms.
"Amber, do you think the ship will sink?" Jade asked, her calm and collected facade slipping for the first time in a long time.
"Nah, professionals run these ships. There were never issues with this cruise line. You know that was one reason we chose it," Amber said with the confidence of someone who believed in those in charge, especially when facing a situation she could do nothing about.
