Adelaide batted her eyelashes "So, William, what brings you here to Heatherfield?"
She looked at him with her big blue eyes, playing with her curls. Smiling her little up-turned smile, Adelaide was playing the demure and shy, lady-like girl, though her transparent intentions were nothing of that sort.
Will being the gentlemen he was, replied.
"Miss Adelaide, I came here with Charlotte, remember? I had nowhere to stay for the break, so she offered me to stay at her home for the break, so I accepted." He smiled, remembering the Charlotte timidly offering him a solution to his problem. He had been delighted of course, and was more eager to accept than he had allowed himself to show.
"Good morning."
They both looked up to see where the light, pretty, voice had come from.
Charlotte was descending down the stairs in a simple white frock edged with drooping gray and pearl pink lace, with still the faintest edges of sleepiness on her face.
The pleasant rays of sunshine was peering in from the tall, looming glass windows, casting its invisible shadows onto the perfectly polished wooden stairs that she tiptoed upon.
Her hair was more neat than messy though curls had already escaped from the hastily tied ponytail.
She smiled at Will, "I see you're up." He chuckled, which, despite Adelaide's efforts, was the first time that morning.
Charlotte then turned to Adelaide with an equally friendly smile, "Hello Adelaide, what brings you here?"
"Oh, nothing much," she waved her hand in an elegant manner, "I was just wondering if you," and here she turned to Will, "and William," here she casted a coy smile at him, "would come to the ball next week."
Then, she turned once again to Charlotte, "But of course, if I do remember correctly, Charlotte, you dislike events like these," here she inserted a blatant sigh of faked disappointment.
Charlotte then smiled meaningfully as she observed Adelaide's actions, "Oh no, I would hate to reject such a cordial invitation,"
Will, equally observant, noticed the subtle change in Charlotte's attitude, and of course, it wasn't as if Adelaide's actions were particularly hard to predict, so he cut in.
"So Miss Adelaide, please do tell us when the ball is, I would love to get acquainted with the lovely residents of Heatherfield."
His eyes twinkled at Charlotte, and she just knew he was doing this on purpose.

The music stopped, as heads turned.
And It was her. It was her descending down those steps, while everyone watched. And a soft gasp escaped from her lips, as she glanced enviously at the graceful figure that descended down the stairs. This emotion was something new. Something mixed with hate, but so much more complicated than just that.
Most of all, she couldn't stand the way everyone was looking at that girl. How, for the first time since forever, the stares of guys weren't following her.
The girl finally reached the bottom of the stairs.
All eyes already fixated on the mysterious lady whom none had yet recognized.
And who shall have the honour of her first dance?
