Chapter 1: Caleb Rubin

"Our mission is to protect the humans." This is basically our anthem, motto, whatever you want to call it. We, angels are bound to protect the humans from a very dangerous species. The vampires. Those despicable beings. I've heard stories on how they were created, A man named Tyrion practised magic using angel's grace, and started the vampire race. It's ironic how we're supposed to protect the humans from something they did to themselves. My whole life I've been trained to kill those bastards. I still haven't completed my training but I'm there.

"You ready Caleb?" My friend Talia asks me. She's my partner. When we graduate, we will take on missions together.

I nod, and follow her to the training room. We enter the room, all the trainees are standing in line. We take our places. We always say our motto before every class. "Our mission is to protect the humans."

"Good morning soldiers," Our trainer has arrived. "Today is your last class. This is your final chance to graduate. Some of you will fail, and they will be cast out." He read the first name who will take the test. Our entire life, we've been learning how to use our magic, how to fight, how to survive when attacked by a vampire. We also learned their weaknesses, their strenght, their abilities. All that will be put to the test now.

"Caleb Rubin." The trainer said. I hesitated at first but then approached him. "You are about to enter a simulation where you will be tested." He explained, "Good luck."

He opens an invisible door on the wall, behind it is nothing. Just darkness. I step inside, and the trainer closed the door behind me, Darkness surrounds me. After a few moments of nothingness, a room started materializing around me. It was an empty parking lot. I waited for a vampire to show up so I can kick some ass, but nothing happened. I waited for a while, looking around expecting someone to jump on me and try to bite me, instead I start having this extremely painful stomachache. I look down and see blood staining my white shirt. Heal Yourself, A voice said. I started mumbling the healing spell. The ache reduced, and the blood started disappearing. I just passed my first test.

Still in the empty parking lot, alone. Nothing happening. I sat on the floor waiting for the second test. A scream caught my ears. I jumped from the ground and ran towards the sound. Two boys appeared in front of me, one lying on the ground, blood surrounding him. The second was a vampire.

Kill the vampire and save the human.

The voice said. I focus my attention on the vampire, I have to kill him. The vampire sees me and sprints towards me with his bloodied mouth open showing his sharp white teeth. Before he reaches me, I set my wings free and fly up. I was so glad when I first got them. When you reach the age of 13 your wings will appear, those beautiful white-feathered beauties. They come in handy when fighting a vampire, since they can't fly. But my flying didn't stop this vamp boy. He ran so fast to the wall then climbed it like some kind of spider and then jumped from the wall and grapped my foot bringing me down with him. I hit the floor hard. I stood up almost immediately and gave him a series of punches, And then I hit him with my angelic fire, the only fire that can hurt the vampires. He burned to ashes.

Kill the infected Human. The voice commanded. I approach the human lying on the floor. The blood had returned to his body, that means the vampirism is spreading in his veins. I take out my angel blade and cut through his neck.

The room dematerialized around me, and I was back to the darkness. The door opened in front of me, behind it I see the trainer. I walk to him. "Welcome the new guardian Of Aurae City!" He said once I'm in the training room again. Aurae city is where the angels live, and now I'm one of their guardians. I have graduated, same for Talia.
