"Watch... Any second now..." Camille told Nellie as she stared at Shirley. It was mere moments after the two of them found out that Theo was a lesbian — and she was dancing with one of Nellie's bridesmaids. Shirley watched the two from a distance with her eyebrows furrowed and a frown on her lips.
"It's taking her forever," Nell responded with a laugh.
"No, any second. Penny's gonna drop..." Millie assured. Not even a second passed before Shirl's face flooded in realisation before she turned to Kevin. "There it is."
Camille and Nellie shared a laugh at the oldest girl. They, too, danced together, though completely platonically. "It took her almost ten minutes."
"Ten minutes and almost thirty years," Nell retorted as she laughed.
"Have you closed on your house yet?" Camille asked with a smirk. She knew her and Arthur were planning on getting out of Massachusetts as soon as they could, especially since the two of them had job opportunities in California.
Nellie nodded. "Next week. Arthur doesn't start his UCLA job until June, so we'll have lots of time to spend with everyone before we go... Luke said he might move out there too."
Camille laughed and rolled her eyes jokingly. "Did he, now?"
Nell giggled with a nod. "It's a twin thing," she said as she shrugged. After a beat of silence between the two she said, "I can only assume the two of will be moving there together, right?"
With a sigh and a far off look, Millie thought hard about the question. Just a few hours prior, she'd gotten into an argument with Luke that seemingly ended their relationship. Camille loved Luke and truly couldn't imagine her life without him, but she wasn't sure if she could take it anymore.
As Camille shook herself from her thoughts, she saw Nellie looking at her with concern. Millie sighed again.
"I wouldn't get my hopes too high... Who knows if he'll even be in the condition to."
Her comment seemed to make Nell sad as she thought for a second. "I hope he does, I need you and him there with me. It won't be fun without you guys."
Camille smiled and Nellie grinned back. "I wish he was here today."
Those six words made Millie's heart sink. She wondered if she should tell her friend that Luke had shown up and that he did wanted to be there. Camille felt bad for turning him away, she had since she first told him he couldn't be there. But he was high and definitely not in the proper state to attend his sister's wedding — it was best that he wasn't there.
