IT IS A TRUTH UNIVERSALLY ACKNOWLEDGED, THAT A ORPHANED GIRL WHO SEES GHOSTS, MUST BE IN WANT OF A HOME.
But if the feelings of said orphaned girl are likened to that a cave —— then the spectral wonders that lurk in the shadows of Hill House are an ocean. The house in all its wretchedness remain unexplored, with every intention to go on existing that way. No one could understand Hill House, not in a million years.
Camille Starling — being said orphaned girl —— is in want of a great many things. For starters, she'd like her parents back and her trauma to disappear and her visions of spirits erased and. . . a home might be nice, actually.
So maybe it is true: an orphaned girl who sees ghosts, must be in want of a home. A real one, though. One that isn't crowded with shadows and one that doesn't take more than it gives and one that doesn't slowly chip away at everyone you've ever loved until they're nothing but flesh and bone.
Hill House isn't a "real home". . . It isn't a house at all.
And therein lies the trick.
