I was still wearing red. It was my child's thirteenth birthday. Her favorite color was yellow. It was a yellow themed party, like mine, but when she walked in, her friends were all saying hi, and hugging her. Not like mine. But, not different too. We sang happy birthday, and she blew out her own candles. That was happy. She got a big box. I cocked my head. I don't remember getting anything bigger than a 2 by 2 box. She opens the box, and gets a yellow bow. I am shocked, stuck in my position. Her grandfather, my dad, walks to her, says " Just a second." I look at him, nod and look down. Oh my gosh. This is happening again! He walks out with a gold retriever puppy. A tear rolls down my cheek. Dad gives the puppy to her. I go over and pet it. " What are you gonna name it?" She looks at the dog then looks at me. "Mello." I say, " That's a great name. My dad tells me to get out of the way. He gets out his polaroid camera. He takes a photo of her smiling, holding up the puppy, and puts it right on the fireplace. Right beside my picture with Mello.
