Naked and alone

            It's gotta be like two in the morning when I'm awoke by a scream. I fall off the couch and scramble up to my legs trying to get my bearings. Fuck that's gotta be her! I rush to her door and slam it open. I don't even care if I scare her, her safety is more important than knocking. She's lying on the bed screaming and crying. (Must be a terrible nightmare.) I go to her side and start shaking her "Hey alex? Hey can you hear me? I'm here so please wake up! Please it's just a bad dream! Please wake up i'm here for you!" I'm getting frantic, she won't wake up! I shake her one more time and with a loud gasp she opens her eyes. Pulling her close to me, I hold her tight. "I'm here for you, everything's alright. It was just a bad dream. I got you." I pull her whole body into my lap and cradle her. She's trembling, while the tears keep streaming down her face. I place my hand on her cheek and wipe them away. "Shhh it's okay i'm here" I keep saying that over and over again all while rubbing her back. Eventually her sobs begin to quiet down.

             "I'll be right back, i'm gonna grab some medicine from the bathroom." She clings onto me. "Here", I turn on the light. "You can watch me the whole time." When her hands released me, I headed to the bathroom. I leave the door open so she can watch what i'm doing. Once I grab what i'm looking for, I fill up a cup of water and walk back to her. "Here" I hand her two pills and a cup of water. "This pill will help you calm down, and this one will help you sleep. I promise." She eye's me again suspiciously but must decide to trust me. I'm all she's got right now and so far I haven't let her down.

             After she takes the pills, I take back the cup and put it in the bathroom. Once I make sure she's calmed down I get up to give her her space but she pulls on my arm. "Whats wrong?" She points to the floor. Her eyes are still filled with fear probably from the nightmare and I understand what she wants. "Okay let me grab a pillow and blanket and I'll come sleep on the floor." I go grab my things from the couch and settle on the floor in the room. "Would you like me to keep the light on?" Two taps.

           She settles back into bed and lays down. I wait till she's sound asleep before I get comfy in my blanket. (You know just in case). With my eyes closed I try to fall asleep but after the nightmare thing, my brain won't stop thinking. (Hopefully no more nightmares happen tonight because she looked so scared. I wonder what she was dreaming about? And where was she for the last two weeks that made her like this?) All of the thoughts keep swirling in my head until my brain is exhausted and I fall asleep.
