Chapter 1
"Kay, I need you to do me a favour," my best friend Pip announced hesitantly as we were walking to our lockers. A few minutes ago, she randomly and unexpectedly pulled me out of my class, telling my teacher that "it was a matter of life or death" which he simply shrugged at and dismissed me. I didn't object to this and was actually extremely grateful because it was a Maths class. Let's just say that Maths, more specifically circular functions, and I do not get along well.
"Umm..." I didn't know what to say. Generally whenever I had to do Pip a favour, it wasn't good. Last time I was forced to babysit her two-year old cousin while she went to a concert and I was supposed to go with her. the worst part was that baby Cassie appeared to be adorable but inside she was the spawn of Satan.
We suddenly stopped in the middle of the corridor. Pip placed her hands on my shoulders, gripping them tightly. I tried to move away but she was much stronger than I was. People tend to underestimate her strength since she was a petite girl. She used to be a gymnast and with her muscles, she could even be the next Hulk (minus the turning into a green superhero part). "Please," she begged with puppy eyes.
I sighed loudly. "Fine. What do you want?"
Pip took a deep breath before saying her next words. "This is hard for me to ask but you owe me. Remember how I saved your ass when you came home drunk and nearly vomitted on your mum's favourite rug?" I nodded and mentally grimaced at the memory. I was never going to drink again. "Well, anyway, now it's your turn to return the favour."
"I knew this day would come. Just kill me now before it's too late," I joked.
"This is a serious matter, Kay!" She punched my arm lightly but it still hurt. "I need you to... I need you to buy me a pregnancy test." Her grip loosened as she said the last two words.
I looked deeply into her hazel eyes, waiting for her to say something like, "Haha, I'm joking. You should see the look on your face," but it never came. Tearing my gaze away from hers, I began staring into space because I didn't know how to respond. I wasn't even concentrating on the world around me. It all became a huge blur. Millions of thoughts were running through my mind but none of them seemed like a good enough reason for Pip wanting me to buy her a pregnancy test. Could my best friend of eleven years be pregnant? Nah, it couldn't be it. Maybe I had heard her wrong. Besides, she was still a virgin, right?
Pip began shaking my shoulders, causing me to snap back into reality.
"What? Oh sorry. I spaced out."
"No shit, I realised when you didn't respond."
"Did you just say that you want me to buy you a pregnancy test?" I blurted out.
Pip nodded her head once which was enough reassurance.
Her confirmation meant that I had indeed heard her correctly. "Wait, why on earth would you need a pregnancy test for?" I finally asked with a hint of desperation in my voice.
"There's no good way to tell you this so I'm just gonna say it. I think I'm pregnant," she said with tears filling her eyes. She let go of my shoulders, waiting for my reaction. Pip rarely cried so I knew that this was a serious matter.
"Pregnant?" I repeated.
"Yes, Kay. Pregnant."
"Are you sure?"
"I think so."
"What do you mean you 'think'?"
"Well, I'm not positive and that's why I'm asking you to get me one of those pregnacy tests. My period is ten days late, I'm having morning sickness and all I can think about is food. These massive food cravings are driving me insane," she explained, counting and ticking off each point with her fingers.
