Chapter 3

"Kay... I- I- I..." Pip stuttered. I grabbed her hands and slowly pulled her towards the bed. We both sat on it, cross legged.

I was still holding her hands, looking her deeply in the eyes. "Pip, everything is alright. Tell me what's wrong," I told her reassuringly.

Pip took a deep breath as more tears poured down. I wiped them away softly with the back of my hand. "Nothing's wrong... In fact, it's wonderful news." I smiled because I was right, they were tears of joy. I braced myself for her 'wonderful news'.

   "Kay, I'm pregnant."

Whoa, that was not what I had expected her to say. The word echoed in my head over and over again. Pregnant, pregnant, pregnant...

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know how to respond. Was I supposed to be thrilled and happy for her? Or was I supposed to be disappointed?

The world around me paused. It felt as if the rotation of the earth and moon came to a complete stop. I closed my eyes and waited for Pip to continue.

   "Kay, please say something."

Staying silent, I said nothing. I tried to but the words wouldn't come out of my mouth. I knew how much of an awful friend I was being by ignoring her.

"Kay!" Pip raised her voice loudly to a point where she was on the verge of shouting.

That did it for me. I snapped back to reality to find Pip gawking at me as if I was crazy. What was I talking about? I was completely crazy.

I finally spoke. Pip was happy and as her best friend, I would be happy for her too.

"Congratulations!" I hugged her tightly, hoping that I had chosen the right thing to say.

"I thought you hated me for a second..."

"Why on earth would I hate you?" I asked, distress filling my voice.

"Because my life is practically ruined and I had to drag you into my stupid mess," she sniffled. Crap, please don't cry! I couldn't deal with a crying Pip right now.

"Aww sweetie, please don't think like that. You're my best friend and I love you to death. Seriously, I would do anything for you, no joke. You're like my sister from another mister!" Pip looked at me oddly with one eye brow raised. I finally realised what I had just said. "Whoops my bad, that didn't come out right," I said sheepishly. Suddenly, we both burst out laughing. The laughing fit seemed to be unstoppable until Pip started coughing.

"Oh shit, are you alright?" I placed my hand on Pip's back and patted her gently.

"Yeah I'm fine. I kind of choked on my own saliva and it went down the wrong pipe?" As soon as Pip said that, we started laughing again. I clutched my stomach, trying to ease the pain from laughing too much.

Once we had calmed down I asked her an important question. "So are you going to keep the baby?"

Pip stared at me with a shocked expression on her face. "Of course I am! Geez, I'm freaking stoked about this, about being pregnant. I'm going to be a mum!" she exclaimed happily. "I'm just terrified about what others will think about me, especially my mum."

"But what about raising the baby without a father? That's going to be pretty difficult," I stated the obvious.

"Yeah, probably but I have you don't I?"

   "Of course!"

This was why Pip and I are such great friends. We always made the best of everything, even when the times are bad. Pip was always there for me and I was always there for her. We stuck together through thick and thin. Without Pip, I honestly wouldn't know what to do with my life.
