When a vampire, or their familiar is destroyed, their soul no longer belongs to the vampire. This process causes the soul to burn out, or technically be destroyed. Only the souls core is intact. If the core is under the right conditions, it is possible to reignite. Because of this, it is much more likely for the being of that soul to reincarnate, if not turned into a ghoul (In which a vampire has the essence of that being).
