The blanket surrounding me was warm and soft, I burrowed down deeper as the sunlight crept into the room, trying to wake me. I turned over and reached for my phone, but was greeted by an empty space where my nightstand usually is. Attempting to open my eyes, my head began pounding reminding me of the amount of alcohol I had last night. I rubbed my eyes and looked to where my phone usually was, noticing that the room I was in, wasn't mine.
Panic set it, I sat up causing my head to spin as I threw the blanket off and looked around the room. Where am I? Who did I go home with? My mind began to flood with questions. I looked down and noticed I was no longer in my night clothes, but in a large tee shirt and my panties, the tee shirt smelt of fresh laundry, comforting in a way. As I attempted to get out of bed, my head spinning became much more profound, and I ended up needing to sit back down. I sighed as my head dropped a bit, defeated by the hangover.
"Oh good, you're awake." A voice came into the room, and I quickly looked around to find the source. In the doorway was a familiar face standing there, smiling. His hair was wet and tousled, clearly fresh out of the shower. He was holding a tray with toast and a glass of water, I licked my lips suddenly realizing just how thirsty I was. He began to walk into the room and I had to fight every urge to recoil back against the wall in fear.
"I'm guessing you are a bit hung over from last night huh?" He sounded cheerful, that pissed me off. Did he take advantage of a drunk girl?
"Where are my clothes?" I demanded, my voice came out horse and raspy.
"Hanging to dry in my laundry room, you threw up all over yourself in the car on the way home." He sat the tray on the desk at the foot of the bed, and handed me the glass of water. I took it slowly, taking a small sip and then resting it in my hand on my lap. He walked back over to tray and grabbed the plate of toast handing it to me.
"Through that door right there is the bathroom. You're welcome to shower, we can talk after that. I will be in the living room just down the hallway and down the stairs, okay?" He smiled, it made my stomach do a small flip. I looked down at the glass of water and nodded, he walked out of the room.I tried to search my brain for any memories of last night, but all I remember was taking shot after shot with my friends because they just kept getting passed around. My head pounded again, causing me to wince. I need a nice hot shower, that will clear my head up a bit. I stood up again, this time with more balance. I took another swig of water and placed the cup on the tray and made my way to the bathroom.
Once inside, I shut the door behind me. The bathroom was painted a soft blue, matching the shower curtain and floor mats. On the toilet was a new tee shirt and a pair of sweatpants, both looking too big for me to fit into but it was all I had for the time being. I undressed quickly, kicking my clothes to the side and starting the shower up.
Steam filled the room quickly, surrounding me and warming my cold skin. I stepped into the shower, letting the hot water run over my head and stream down my body. I let out a large sigh as my body began to feel better, my mind pounding much less than before. I searched the shower for some shampoo, only to find a mans head and body wash. I put some in my hand and began to lather my hair, the smell filling the shower up.
Finishing up, I shut the water off and pushed the curtain to the side. I grabbed the white towel hanging on the wall and wrapped it around my self as I stepped out. I tucked the towel up, and walked to the mirror, wiping away some of the steam. The reflection looking back reminded me of a rabid raccoon, my make-up running well below my eyes and my cheeks flushed. I grabbed some tissues and began to wipe off the make up.
Releasing myself from the towel, I bent over and let my hair fall down, wringing the towel around it, trying to get it as dry as I could. I hung the towel up back where I found it and slipped the tee shirt on. I laughed when I noticed it went down to my knees, then eye'd the sweatpants. I grabbed them and slipped my legs in, pulling them up. They were way too loose, so I rolled them, one, two, three times before they sat on my hips a little better.
Opening the bathroom door, I was greeted by cooler air and felt much better. I grabbed a slice of toast, and headed out into the hall and down the stairs to the living room, where the guy said he would be.
"Hey" He said as I walked in, his hair was dry now and he was lounging in a overly stuffed couch, the tv playing on low.
"Hi." I said quietly, before waling over and sitting on the furthest side away from him, tucking my legs under me criss-cross style.
"Sorry the clothes were a little big, wasn't sure what else to give to you." He ran his hand through his hair, was he nervous?
"It's okay... I'm sorry but where am I?" I played with the hem of my shirt, I wasn't ready for small talk.
"Ahh.. right, you're probably confused. Well, you're at my house, I live with my family. They're all out right now though, mom and dad have meetings and sister is at a friends. Last night you ran into me, and you seemed like you were crying, and then you threw up all over my shoes." He made a sour look at me, but it was followed quickly by sympathy. "I wasn't sure what to do, so I helped you in the bathroom and then decided you needed to go home. You passed out though, I had no idea where you lived or where your friends were. The smartest thing was to bring you here, I just didn't have the heart to leave you at the party." He smiled again, his hand fiddling with the remote on his lap. He looked so genuine, like he couldn't even hurt a fly.I looked around the living room, it wasn't that big but it was very cozy. Two recliners sit adjacent to the large couch we were both sitting on, a brown coffee table sitting in the middle cluttered with papers and coffee cups. I looked down at my hands, sitting in my lap trying to remember last night.
"My friends were playing truth or dare I believe, I got dared to go in a closet with someone, I can't remember exactly but I remember not being comfortable." My voice was soft, hardly a whisper. I didn't look at him, ashamed he might think bad of me. I was confused as to why I cared what he thought, but he did take me in. "I'm sorry you had to take care of me, I feel awful and would like to repay you." This time I looked at him, his eyes were focused on me, soft and concerned.
"What do you mean you were uncomfortable?" His voice was stern, not breaking a beat. Did I say something wrong?
"Like I said I don't remember, if I remember I will tell you. But please, let me repay you in some way. At least let me get your shoes dry cleaned for vomiting all over them." He laughed and set the remote down between us.
"You don't owe me anything, but your name. Hi, I'm Evan, and it's nice to meet you when you're sober." This made me smile, he was so easy to be around. I pulled a strand of wet hair off my shoulder and began to twirl it out of habit.
"I'm Annabella, it's nice to meet you." He nodded and then looked at the T.V."Well, Annabella, are you hungry? I know you ate some toast, but maybe I could treat you to some breakfast? I know a real greasy diner that's perfect for hangovers." He winked and stood up, then looked over at me. "But first let me take you home. As good as you look in my clothes, you look even better in your own." I felt my face heat up causing me to look down at the piece of hair I was playing with. He laughed and walked towards the opening that lead to what looked like the kitchen. "Let's go, you can give me directions to your house. Your purse is at the front door." He vanished out of the threshold before I could even object. I stood up and followed him, smiling silently to myself, what have I gotten myself into?
