Unsaved Number: Hey, it's Sammy. From Sephora.
Me: Hey there, cutie. How's you?
Sammy: Good. So, um, is there a reason you gave me your #
Me: because I like you, duh
Sammy: oh, well, um, I guess I should probably tell you something then...
Sammy: I'm a trans girl
Me: okay, that's fine. I'm a trans guy. So it works out perfect
Sammy: wait... really??
Me: yeah
Sammy: holy... can we meet up?
Me: sure, meet at Pizza Hut in 30? We'll have lunch. On me
Sammy: sure. See you then
I smiled, shaking my head at how adorable she was, and went to go get dressed.
I pulled into the parking lot 20 minutes later, and looked myself over nervously in the rearview mirror. I hadn't had a crush this bad since before I came out and transitioned.
"Calm yourself dude. It's fine."
I took a deep breath, opening the car door and stepping out.
Sammy walked in five minutes later, spotting me immediately.
"Wow... you look... stunning," I said, admiring her.
"Thank you," she mumbled, smiling and sitting down.
"So, Sammy, tell me about you."
"Well, I'm 16. My mom and dad are divorced. I live with my mom and my little sister lives with my dad. I skipped my freshmen year of high school, so I'm a senior. Um, I don't really know what else to say... what about you?"
"Well, I'm 18, I graduated last year, and moved out a year before that."
"Oh. Cool. So, um, can I ask you something?"
"What's up buttercup?"
"Could we maybe go to your place for a bit? I'm just a little uncomfortable out in public like... this," she gestured to her sweater and skirt, "just, since I'm not fully out yet..."
"Yeah. We'll just get our pizza to go."
An hour later, we sat on the couch in my tiny studio apartment, watching American Pie and eating pizza. Sammy laid her head on my shoulder, causing my heart to flutter.
"Levi?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you believe in love at first sight...? Because I think that's what I'm feeling..."
I paused, then nodded. "Yeah, me too," I whispered, kissing the top of her head.
