seoul was a bit different that day. the air had a slight breeze, the sun melting behind the clouds, the streets less crowded than usual, it was different. jiwoo wouldn't have noticed though. no, she was too nervous. plucking at the nails on her fingers and pacing back and forth, jiwoo probably wouldn't have noticed if the sky fell.

she was so nervous. god, was she nervous. her heart beat against her rib cage as her stomach went up in flames. any moment, she felt like she would pass out from the pressure. she was three places away from the door. the audition door at that. today was the day that she'd audition for the dance academy she's been wanting to get into since she was ten. jiwoo was confident in her skills, she'd be dancing for years now and even came in first during regionals.

it's just the thought of getting rejected from your favorite dance academy made her throat dry and legs wobbly. the line moved, signaling that someone had just went in. jiwoo was two spots away from the door. she shook her hands and ran a hand through her hair, messing up the bangs she'd taken so little time to fix this morning.

she looked around and everyone seemed to be in their own element. some were rehearsing their dance with arm movements and small feet movements, others talking on the phone with those who are most likely relatives or close friends. jiwoo felt like a sore thumb. she felt like she was the only one out of place.

she glanced around once more but her eyes lingered on in a specific spot.

on a specific person.

jiwoo tilted her head in curiosity as she watched the elegant moves of the fairly tall, brunette girl. the girl was obviously a great dancer, anyone could see that. she moved swiftly, almost swan like. jiwoo's mouth dropped slightly when the girl did a final spin and landed exquisitely.

a tap landed on her shoulder, bringing jiwoo down to earth. "mhm?" she said and looked at the person who tapped her. they pointed towards the door, meaning it was jiwoo's turn.

her eyebrows shot up as she quickly apologized to the person behind her, gave them a slight bow, and walked into the room. a gust of cool air hit her in the face as she entered the room. four judges sat on a panel and they observed her as she nervously walked to the center of the room.

"number 256, kim jiwoo?" one of them asked out and jiwoo nodded, "yes."

"your card, please?" another one said and jiwoo quickly walked over to them and gave them her card. she stepped back into the middle of the room and waited for the music to begin playing.

jiwoo left the building and smiled brightly. the judges loved her dancing and her heart swelled with pride. she pulled out her phone and dialed the number of her best friend.

"jungeun, guess what!" jiwoo spoke enthusiastically into the phone.

"what happened, jiwoo?"

"the judges really liked my dancing! they said i was one of the best ones to come through today. i might get accepted!" jiwoo said and she could hear jungeun's squeal and jinsoul's loud congratulations' in the background. "i'm so proud of you. when you get back, i'll take you to your favorite restaurant to celebrate so dress nice," jungeun proposed and she had to remove the phone from her ear due to jiwoo's really loud scream.

"thank you, i love you. tell jinsoul i said thank you too. i have to go," jiwoo finished.

"i love you too and jinsoul says you're welcome. i'll see you when you get home."

they hung up the phone and jiwoo breathed out and let a smile take over her face.

"pretty smile on a pretty face."

jiwoo jumped, startled from the unexpected voice and turned to meet the owner of it. she gasped lightly as the person who stood before her turned out to be the girl she was watching before she went to audition.

"my eyes are up here, beloved," the taller girl said with a quirk of her eyebrows and jiwoo's face flushed red. "oh um, sorry. i'm jiwoo," she muttered and stuck her hand out for the girl to shake.

she looked at jiwoo's hand for a moment before nodding and grabbing it. "i'm sooyoung. i couldn't help but notice you watching me before you went into the building," she said with a slight smirk on her face.

jiwoo could feel the arrogance emitting from sooyoung but it wasn't in a jerk kind of way, more so a way of her trying to charm jiwoo.

and jiwoo wouldn't admit it was working, although it absolutely was.

"yes, i was very intrigued by your dancing. you're really good, the academy is definitely going to accept you," jiwoo complimented and sooyoung's smirk turned into a smile. "thank you, jiwoo. i really appreciate it. and from the conversation you just had with your friend, i assume you're very good at dancing as well?" sooyoung asked and jiwoo nodded her head.

"yes, i've been dancing since i was ten. always loved it," jiwoo answered.

both girls subconsciously began walking together, away from the building.

"since you were ten? try four. as soon as i could walk my parents put me in a dance studio. something about wanting to keep it in the family," sooyoung joked and jiwoo let out a soft laugh. "my parents didn't care what i did in life. as long as i was happy," jiwoo said and smiled and sooyoung glanced at her.

"i was actually going to stop dancing and become a singer," sooyoung said and this caught jiwoo's attention. "singing? why? i thought dancing was your passion since you started at such an early age," she wondered and sooyoung shook her head.

"i was kind of rebellious when i was a teen. my parents pissed me off one day so i decided why not piss them off too? i signed up for a singing class and wrote down my mom's credit card info. let's just say they stopped trusting me until i turned eighteen," sooyoung explained and jiwoo couldn't help but let out a loud laugh.

"her credit card info? you're kidding right?" jiwoo asked between laughter and sooyoung nodded her head while laughing also. "i had to pay for the classes somehow right? when she found out, she was livid. jiwoo, i swear i've never seen her more mad than she was then in my entire life," sooyoung explained.

jiwoo's laughter calmed until it eventually stopped and she noticed they were nowhere near the buildings. "was this your plan to just get me away from the building?" she asked, feigning suspicion.

"if i say yes, does it get me your number?" sooyoung asked with an arched eyebrow.

jiwoo opened and closed her mouth, lost for words. she had not expected that and now she was stuck. "well?" sooyoung asked and jiwoo nodded dumbly. "may i see your phone, then?" sooyoung asked, slightly amused at how entranced jiwoo was. jiwoo grabbed her phone from her back pocket, unlocked it, and handed it to sooyoung.

"you can speak, you know," sooyoung said and put in her contact information before taking a selfie. "um yeah, i was just...never mind," jiwoo said and looked down, her ears red with heat.

sooyoung handed her back her phone and gave her a quick wink.

"call me sometimes and we can dance together..and other things," sooyoung said, her smirk turning into a slight smile.

jiwoo's mind glitched before she answered, "other things?"

"you know, like a date? isn't that what people do when they're interested in each other?"

"a date?"

"goodbye, jiwoo," sooyoung said laughing while walking in the other direction.
